I read the review in View Camera magazine about the new Calumet LED light source for their Zone VI enlargers (I have a Beseler).

Has anyone purchased this yet? If so, any additional comments? Thanks.

What did the review say? I've been curious if they can get the most contrast from MG.

If you want more contrast from MG go to a condenser and point light source. Sharpness, local and overall contrast will all be beneficially affected. At least my experience and testing indicates this.

Sorry I have no interest in or information about the LED source.

I called Calumet on Thursday. I was informed," that they should be available late March or early April."

Les McLean and I are supposed to doing some demos with this light head next weekend at the Silver Conference in Pasadena, Ca. So, at least one head is built. When Calumet Photo is gonna release the head for retail anybodies guess.

I have had it on order since August of 2004.

It has been made and tested and made again, and there were production problems and other problems. Richard Newman has been working and evaluation one for some time now and likes it a lot. Apparently there must still be some bugs to be worked out.

The main advantage is that it is supposed to 3 1/2 stops brighter.

3 1/2 stops brighter than what? Probably the VCL4500. What does this tell us about the VCL4500?

Anybody know what the holdup has been? Why would they have said it's ready, then delayed the product launch so many times? Sure doesn't instill confidence!
