The group is intended to support people who want to learn proper camera repair techniques. It was started by a couple of professional camera repair folks and a number of active and retired camera technicians participate and share their knowledge freely.
Posts from people looking for a quick fix for some problem or other are disliked. Also disliked are posts asking "what's wrong" without giving sufficient detail to allow others to know what type camera and under what conditions a problem occurs. And if you're someone who believes WD-40 can fix anything, well, you'd best keep that opinion to yourself!
I'm currently in the process of investigating the usual electronic problems with the Minolta X cameras with focus on the Minolta X-700.
Unfortunately, it is not always the electrolytic capacitors that turn off the LEDs or prevent the shutter from opening. According to the documents available to me (SPT Journal, C & C Associates Electronic Troubleshooting Guide, Service Manual, Camera Craftsman), I suspect problems with the magnets or defective ICs.
I am therefore interested in whether such topics are discussed in the Facebook group, including a theoretical background (cause of the problems).
In my experience, it is difficult to find information on such issues in the Web.
My experience with the group was a general grumpiness.
While not trained in the subject, I have absorbed a ton of info over the years regarding camera repair and have had decent success in repairs/maintanence. That said, I found the group really wasn't worthwhile and I left.
I never asked any stupid questions myself, but just watching the interactions was like being in a room of grumpy people and I didn't want it to rub off on me.
