Gee, I guess we should rename APUG: Analog "Black and White" Photographers Users Group.

FP4 is NOT color film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

While Velvia is a beautiful film, it`s a disaster for skin tones, so I`ll settle for Provia.

Black and White: 400TMax. Long scale, sharp, fine grained. The most expandable b+w film made.

C-41: Kodak Pro 100T. Incredible scale, low contrast, beautiful rich color balance without being overly saturated. (No longer made. Oh, how it broke my heart when they took this away.)

E-6: Kodak EPY. Same reasons as Pro 100T. For now, they still make it. (In 5x7 format, no less.)

Since your scenario hypothesizes that civilization is being destroyed, I guess if I can only grab one roll or box of film it would have to be the TMax because I would then be able to develop it. If humanity is being wiped out, there probably won't be any color labs still operating.

Oh by the way: I'd get the Kodak EPY too. And since some insist that the question was about colour film, I'd bring a freezer-full of B&W as well.
 
Robert, when I started this thread, I really forgot about black and white film.
But I guess it's ok for people to state their favorite black and white film, but since this is a color film forum, it would be best if they also stated their favorite color film too.

So here are the rules of the thread:
-if you are a BW fan, state both your favorite BW find and favorite color film.
-If you are not, just state your favorite film (which would be color film anyways since you are not a fan of BW photography)

I think this helps preserve this thread in color film forum.


I'm not sure myself which film would be my last. But I can narow the selection right here:
it would be reversal film
it would be Ektachrome
It would be an older Ektachrome (Pre E-family)

I'm still discovering some of these emulsions, so I'm not sure yet (some experiences have been quite recent)
but it would be one of these:
EPR,EPP,EPN

Now, by the end of this thread, I'm sure I'll make up my mind..
 
Kodak EPY. Same reasons as Pro 100T. For now, they still make it.

If you are a fan of EPY, your are probably in luck because super8 production might help EPY stand as the last of the older Ektachromes.

Kodak E100VS
Kodachrome 25(To much hassle in this day)

NPS 160 followed by
Portra 160 followed by
Kodak Ektar 25 followed by
Gold 100

I like Kodachrome 64. I would have to send it to the last Kodachrome lab left in the world.
 
Tri-X like the model T Ford, you can get any color you want provided its black (and white). :smile:

only one colour film...? My brain locks-up just thinking about it. B&W is easy tri-x.

My reason for tri-x I'm stupid its easy.

Cause they render the scene as I saw it...pretty simple..

Although the end of civilization as we know it would be a bit of bad luck, I'm usually a pretty lucky guy, so I'd take a few rolls of Provia (I prefer more natural colors) with the Leica M6, leaving everything else behind (except survival gear, firearms and ammo). The luck comes in when I'd meet two groups of other survivors - one that had preserved a pedal-operated Jobo outfit, and another that had a supply of E-6 chems. :wink:
 
Ralph, makes a good point. My colour material would be a set of windsor-Newton watercolours (large tubes) a No. 10 series 6 brush (or can I have many brushes?) and as much d'arches 300# cold press as I can carry. I'll leave the guns and ammo to those who know how to use them.

I like Reala because it delivers bright, yet natural colors and isn't harsh on skintones. It's a good all-around film for those times when I don't know what I'll be shooting with a given roll of film.

My favourite film use to be Fuji MS100/1000, but thats no more :sad: for C41 I like Kodak Provia 400VC for my style of photography, but then as a general NPZ800. Now for B&W Kodak HIE.
