I'll try again tomorrow. Maybe my metering was off or something but these are not the results I've had in the past. At least I nailed the focus.

I have a box of double-sided green that I've been slowly going through since 2008. Kept in the fridge. No loss of sensitivity. Since this is closeup work, did you remember to factor in bellows extension? 🙂

I did for a few of the shots. I've narrowed it down to the unthinkable due to other issues I've had with some films. You may want to sit down for this and have the kids leave the room.

I think my Rodinal is dead.

Or dying. It's near the bottom of the bottle and I've had it for nearly 10 years. I know legend is that it never dies but I think this is gone. I'm going to run another test today and use a different developer, no bellows extension and a different light meter.

You are probably right. This happened to me with a half full bottle, that had been sitting in my darkroom for about 10 years.

But this can't be! Everyone said the stuff lasts for decades!

I did a few shots just now. Going to do 1:100 in HC-110 and see what happens.

The stuff from the 1980s lasted decades. Older bottles too. Since Agfa folded and Tetenal (?) picked up manufacturing the stuff, we don't know, because it hasn't been long enough.

So about 8 years on my bottle. Not bad. Any suggestions which version I should pick up next? I have Adox Rodinal right now.

Film's washing but I peeked in on it. Yep, my developer was dead. I used HC-110 this time and it's thick and nice looking. One thing about this film I've noticed, it dries super quick. I'll post the results later on.

Crown Graphic, MIN-R ISO 100. HC110 1:100 7min. f/5.6 1/400 I think.

I can't find Rodinal or derivatives anywhere right now. I ordered one on back order. Guess I'll tweak the HC110 formula meanwhile.

I make my own Rodinal-alike out of acetaminophen, drain opener, and sodium sulfite. Doesn't keep like the original Agfa, but it works the same and it's never on back order...

Hey Cholentpot,

That looks really excellent. I really like MINR. Glad you were able to find some!

18x24 Mammo Shortie Sawed Off Norma by Nokton48, on Flickr

This is a test shot (my Shorty Norma) French Kodak 18x24cm MINR Mammo Film, processed in D23 1:1. Taking camera is my new Annie/Avedon inspired 8x10 Norma. I applied 30 degrees of front and rear swing, the Norma original recessed lensboard is sharp all the way across the field. I like how the DOF drops off with the 360mm f5.6 Norma Symmar. There appears to be highlight blooming, which I find kind of attractive. Best thing about this film was that it was not at all expensive. And I have a lot of it. My "Shorty Sawed-Off Norma" has a basic rail cut down, to just accommodate a 120mm lens. Here it is shown with the 47mm f8 Super Angulon, which I am looking forward to using a lot with 2x3 and 6x9. This is not a telephoto camera, but I can easily lift and carry it with one hand without strain. The lowly Star-D tripod is sturdy enough with this setup, given proper time to settle down. I cut both ends off a basic Norma rail with my Lil Machine Shop Bandsaw. So it is now simply a hollow tube perfect length for Field and Architecture.

Thanks! I have one box of the stuff and am halfway through. I'll have to start looking for some more soon. Photo took a bit of work in post to get it looking right. I was surprised how much I was able to recover from the shadows.

18x24 Sinar Norma 300 Xenar F4.5 Rembrandt Lighting by Nokton48, on Flickr

The cool thing about having multiple Normas, is that you can leave them set up for a while. Getting ready to shoot this one. Classic Rembrandt Lighting, Broncolor Beauty Light pointed straight down from up high as possible. Silver reflector on the floor tilted towards the subject. Lens is 300mm chrome Schneider Xenar, on custom made Norma board. Xenars are lovely to shoot through at near full aperture. The focus blows out behind the front row of petals which I find attractive. Strobe meter says F22 at EI 50 so just one pop will do. Canvas Background is by David Maheu "Kelly Grey" Like it Stormy Grey middle key with no corner vignettes. I can vignette with light if required

Is there a current single sided x-ray film? Some manufacturers are explicit regarding the makeup of the film, some are not.

First Test of NPL 8x10 HRU 1000mm F32 18 pops Octobox by Nokton48, on Flickr

First test of Negative Lab Pro, a program which converts large format negatives (small ones too) into nice looking positives. This is 8x10 Fuji HRU XRAY Film, D23 replenished. Neg copied with Sony Nex-7 (36mp) with 50mm Zeiss F2.8 Touit, an AWESOME optic. Big learning curve ahead
