Large Format 6x9 using 35mm film

So I'm finally building a "Large Format" camera using multiple strips of 35mm film...

this one will use six 9" strips of 35mm side by side...so it'll end up with a 6"x9" image...I eventually want to make somethig a lot bigger, but this should be a good test

I eventually want to try overlapping the film with the sprocket holes out of phase so I'll get the entire image...with the film side by side I'll miss a bit...

A while back I saw images someone made this way, but I wasn't able to find it by googling tonight

an 8x10 piece of glass will press against the film to hold it flat

Um, why's that preferable to using 120 film? Seems like more work.

I like the look of sprocket holes, I'll probably be trying 120 also

There are images like this (or similar?) on the Flickr website. It's like putting 35mm in a Holga or Diana -type camera, which is made for 120 film, so you get the sprocket area covered too. Some of the pics are very interesting. I think there is also a digital-based software for putting the sprockets and Holga light leaks on to "normal" images, for folks who want the look, but not the "expense" of the Holgas. Everybody should have a hobby, as I like to say...

Well, then, why don't you just perforate some 120? Its a lot easier to deal with.

buy some perforated 46mm.

Or, you could buy some perforated 70mm in 100 foot roll, if you are really ambitious, and have a bunch of money to spend.

Well, I can't say I follow the logic, but it's certainly interesting nonetheless. I think you're going to have a heck of a time cutting 9" strips of film and then stacking it 6 high, but I admire your courage Go for it, and then share your results with us! Good luck!

I got a 4x6.5" image with 4 strips of film

definitely a fun trick, but I think in the future I'll skip using glass to hold the film down...with all the fingerprints on the glass, etc I don't see any advantage to using glass
