I have a Konica Auto S1.6 I bought from Ebay last year, I had been meaning to try it out, but every time I set it the shutter will not go off unless there is sufficient light - in other words it appears to be working only in auto mode. I tested this by taking the battery out and sure enough the shutter will not go off. Am I correct that this is not normal? I was hoping to use it for infrared film since the speeds go down to one second, but I am wondering what might need to be fixed here? Thanks

It is not normal. The battery is needed only for the light meter which is needed for auto operation. It should work in manual mode at any setting.

Apparently this is also true with mine, it’s possible to set it manually if there is enough light to activate the meter. I used it successfully today with Rollei 400 infrared film and a R72 filter and was able to set it at f16 and 1 second. It must be some strange quirk in the design, but at least you can trick it into manual mode if the battery is inserted. Thanks
