Howdy all,

I am curious to work out how to start using filters on the front of my Hexanon 58mm lens. I am lead to believe that it's a 'Series VII' filter size.

Can anyone tell me what the thread is I see there? Are there adapters I can get to fit that (taking into consideration most of my filters are 67mm)

Cheers

Good morning, Hoffy;

Yes, there are adapters that will allow you to go from your Koni-Omega Hexanon 4.5/58mm WA lens and step up to your 67mm filters.

I will dig out my manual and see if I can determine the exact filter thread size. I have been moving things around trying to rearrange and make a little more sense of the equipment here. Please allow me a few minutes to relocate things.

Good morning, Hoffy;

Well, this is not quite as simple as I had originally thought. Maybe.

Yes, the K-O 4.5/58 WA lens does take Series VII filters. The filter thread mount should be a 54.35mm diameter by 36 tpi (Threads Per Inch) filter ring thread for Series VII. I cannot explain why there is a combination of a Metric diameter (and an odd one) with an English thread pitch.

However, you can get Series VII to Series VIII (7 to 8) Step-up Rings. And, I think that the Series VIII filter thread is just about the same as our currently available 67mm filters, so your existing selection of filters should go right on. The 67mm filter is 67mm diameter and 0.75mm thread pitch.

So, check with your local camera shop, or Freestyle, Adorama, B & H, or other camera vendor to see if they can get you a suitable step-up ring; either a Series VII to Series VIII or a Series VII to 67mm.

And, at this time I am using Series VII filters on my Koni-Omega 4.5/58 WA lens, but it is nice to know that I can go to my own selection of 67mm filters (there are a few) if I want something not available in the Series VII filters.

Series VII to 52mm, 55mm, and 58mm rings USED to be available from Spiratone. I have the Series VII to 52mm that I used with my 80mm Ektar lens for my Hasselblad 1000F. I'd try HeavyStar on eBay. They are scarce but they do pop up every so often.

Understand that when using 67mm in a Series 8 ring that can get jammed!

Cheers for that. It would not be entirely impossible for me to get a ring manufactured (I used to work as a turner many many years ago and I still have access to a lathe if I need), but I am really thinking and wondering if it is worth it. I have looked at Adorama and haven't found it on their online catalogue. I might look around locally and see what I can find

Cheers

I have a Series VII to 55mm on mine.
I found it on eBay a while back.
There is a vendor on eBay that sells all kinds of Series adapters and he says in his postings to ask if you don't see what you want as he may have it.
Unfortunately I don't remember the vendor name, look around and you will probably find it by searching for Series assorted in the filter category.

Good morning, Hoffy;

I have confirmed that the old Series VIII or Series 8 thread specifications and the current 67mm diameter filters with 0.75mm thread pitch are indeed the same. You can screw the 67mm filters into a Series VIII or Series 8 filter holding ring with no difficulty. Mine go in at least three (3) threads, and they come back out again turning it by hand only.

With a Series VII to Series VIII Step-Up Adapter, you will be able to use your existing set of 67mm filters on your Koni-Omega 58mm lens with no problem. And I can use my filters on my lens also. Nice.
