Kodak VR35 K12 - does not load film - motor runs

I was just given a VR35 k12. It seems to be of working order, other than the film advance. The motor will run and it will rewind, but I cannot figure out how to fix it. I'm guessing it is a purely mechanical issue as the motor will run for both film advance and rewind.

I did some research on the subject, but all I found was someone else having the same problem and no solution.

Can anyone please provide some tips as to what I need to look for specifically or a possible solution?
