I do use 5222 cause the GBP for 400 foot of the cine is not much more than the GBP for 100 foot of trix.

this is only true if you can buy several cans at a time,

A single can from either Kodak themselves or a MP film distributer is close to £200 delivered. Of course the cost per 100' is is still cheaper than Tri-X even in that case

Confirmed we (including another other APUG member) bought five of 400 foot at 124 GBP each next day delivery in Nov13. We could have bought more but five incurred minimal overheads. Think they have gone up 15%.

There is no hassle phone debit / credit card so it is as simple as ordering five or six of Trix 100s from process supplies and paying for postage. The per foot cost a lot less.

I only took two cans cause I was 'topping up'. My chum wanted to buy more... after he processed the 1st cassette, maybe a different signature from Hp5+, but vestigial

OK, I remember when a pack of smokes and 2 qts of beer was a buck at the local Stop & Rob store. You could buy 45's in there too. Mom used to drop us off downtown on a Saturday, and I could see the Saturday matinee features for 10 cents, buy some candy and a coke, and still have a nickle left. I'm only in my early 60's, so things have really changed.

36 exposures is usually too much for me to shoot in a day too, so I've taken to opening the camera in a change bag around the 16th shot and cutting the film so I can develop those that day. I can shoot the rest tomorrow. Tried buying 24 exp rolls, but the price ratio between that and 36 exp is not good.

When shooting on the streets 36 frames comes too quickly. <g> Thanks to the freezer I still have a 100' roll ready to go, so that is several trips to NYC.

Cheers -

Honestly, film isn't my problem. Gas prices to go shoot it--THAT'S the problem.

here in the usa we have no idea how expensive gas is ... 4-5$ / gallon is cheap compared to what a lot of people pay.

Us Brits seem to pay more for everything. Sales tax (VAT) of 20% hurts.

there is first a fuel levy

2.19 GBP per USG then

20% sales on the total

tad more then 20% overall

That's because their tax is so much higher. The actual price before tax isn't that different.

20% or 28.5% doesn't really add up to 3+ x the cost / gallon ...
maybe there are other taxes other than the VAT taxes that i am not
thinking about ... we pay huge fuel taxes were i live as well

I guess when you have a whole country on a small island, they have to keep pumping water on the economy to keep it from heating up. Because if it heats up and expands, where is it going to go? There's no place to go because it's ocean all around. Best reckoning I can come up with.

who said ,there are no more miracles? However, it's a great film at either (and maybe any)price.

Ralph, I was willing to accept that same sentiment. Although the recent increase to 4.79 prompted me to compare HP5 and Tri-x while I wasnt losing anything. I bought a trial of 30 rolls, and am currently developing them together to see how to working characteristics compare (shadow values mostly). I have shot hundreds of rolls of Tri-x and its still my only film really.

Well we are not tea party rep, you might find us very pink, socialist...
And we have not just been holding your coat in your rescent squabbles, however we still need to borrow a lot.
You are correct about the size. My bus stops are 110 yards away, 40 minutes to railway station, then 20 minutes to London, or 2.5 hours to Manchester.
My town auto does 60 statute miles to Imp gallon.

I don't think a supply-sider like me would get along very well in England. Not sure what you meant about recent squabbles, but I don't take offense.
I have to drive 10 miles to see a human being here, not that I really care to see most of them. I don't exactly live in a "high society" zone.:D

I ment Iraq and Afgan invasions...

Oh, yeah. I haven't got much to say about that--it's political, and political posts just get e-mails from Sean, and irritate 1/2 the other posters. Besides if I was president, that war would have been over on 9/12. Some things are just pointless.
Where were we?--Oh yes, Tri-X. Great stuff. Everybody should have a 100 foot roll in their basic survival kit.

I do. However, now that it's $99 USD, bulk rolling isn't very cost effective or as useful.

...remember when Freestyle store brand film was made by Ilford and was really FP4 and HP5? THOSE were the good old days...
Au contraire, those were the bad old days. The days when Ilford was desperately selling master rolls at low prices to raise cash and stave off bankruptcy. It didn't work.

Fortunately, HARMAN knows better and won't engage in the practice.

I was referring to the mid 90s when I bought it. Film in general was booming and there was no such thing as digital to any meaningful extent. I don't know if that's really what was going on at Ilford at the time or not. If it was, I agree with you. But you may be talking about a later period?

Now in stock:

http://www.freestylephoto.biz/192244-Arista-Premium-400-ISO-35mm-x-24-exp.

You could have got those 100 rolls for $2.59

Those are 24 exposure rolls though. I think he was talking about 36s.

Still a great deal. I have a fair number of rolls (36s) in my fridge plus the remainder of 100', probably 50' of that or so. But I shoot so little 35mm black and white anymore since I have medium format cameras I don't plan on buying more. Large format too but I went large before medium and I still shot plenty of 35mm for things like moving subjects or when I couldn't take a tripod much less 10+ minutes to make a shot.

I remember that! "England's Finest", they called it. And they had Agfa color neg in 120 very cheap too. The more you bought the less it was. Good times.

Silver isn't $34 an ounce anymore so I suspect that had something to do with the ability to lower the price once the overstock was gone. It closed at $19.20 today, the 11th. Then we've had cheaper natural gas prices, although I believe their down after a recent high.
