Two weeks ago, I ordered some Tri-x 35mm film from Adorama with the knowledge it was on backorder. It's still on backorder.

However, B&H Photo Video has it in stock. I wonder what's going on with that?
 
They are probably buying from different intervening distributors.
The same factors that are leading to the backorders in colour film (confectioning capacity mainly) affect black and white.
The Kodaks make and sell a lot more colour film then they make and sell black and white film.
In fact, most likely Harman/Ilford make and sell more black and white film than the Kodaks.

It seems the black-and-white film becomes harder to get a hold of.
