Hi all!

I have found some film on eBay that is, from my research, 35mm TMax 400 on an aerial base. This is not an aerial version of Tmax 400, this is the consumer emulsion on a big roll for high speed cameras used by the military.

To try and subsidize the purchase of some of this film for myself, I will be selling some off here. It expired in 2004. Since it is on a 0.1mm base, 150’ will fit in a normal bulk loader.

Comments about storage from the seller:
The film was government owned before I got it some years ago. I assume it was stored properly while they had it. I've had it in an insulated warehouse. All the reels are still in their sealed plastic pouches inside sealed metal cans. Most are in their original 5 reel / case boxes.

From my understanding of the old TMY emulsion, it may have lost a little speed, but should still be usable at 200 or 125.

Asking $75/150 ft roll + $10 shipping.

It’s 35mm film, sorry that wasn’t clear.

I was planning on only selling this film as 150 foot bull rolls, but I was asked by someone if I could make individual cassettes so I might do that. Still haven’t decided yet.

Bump!

Film is absolutely still usable! I have not scanned this film yet, but here are the negatives . EI 25, 50, 100, 200, 400. EI 200 looks best to my eyes, and you can possibly use it at 400. This was developed in D 76 according to regular TMax development time.

A few questions :
  • Will you be sending single rolls in sealed unopened packages?
  • Re: the test film that you show: were you able to load a spiral (Paterson? Jobo?) without specific problems?
  • Does the film dry flat? reasonably flat? curled?
  • Would you ship to EU? How much for one roll shipped?
Thank you and GLWYS

Hi!

I’m selling parts of a giant 1200 ft roll that I got of this stuff. I don’t need nearly so much film, so I’m selling most of it. It is rolled down to 150’ lengths by me, so it won’t come in original Kodak packaging, it will come in a box with 2 black bags around it. I don’t have any more 35mm cores so it will not have one when shipped, but it still works fine in any normal loader.

As far as how the film behaves during development and drying, if you have ever used Aviphot (or the many rebrands), it’s just like that, but with Tmax emulsion.

Let me know where exactly you are in the EU and I can give you an estimate for shipping.

Thank you for the information that you provide. I have developed some Rollei IR200 (120 format) and did not experience any abnormal curling.

I had a look at the USPS rates. I should have done that first. Soo... for first class international, there are 20 (!) regional price groups. France is in 5 (and China in 3??). Smallest package is $19.05; a full 150 feet would be the next ($38.30) or second-next ($52.20) row (a courier service would be even worse). Making --to me-- the purchase less attractive.

At least my query brought (briefly) your ad on the top of the pile. Again good luck.

Can you scan some frames. How is the grain?

tried to get them scanned at my local place, but unfortunately they are short staffed so it would take a while.

I was planning on scanning it last week but the DSLR got moved and I haven’t found it yet.

I’ll look again this weekend and see if I can find it and scan the negs. But from what a friend has told me, it looks very similar to modern TMY to them.

In terms of grain and fog, how is it? It’s 20+ years expired. I know tmax 400 is pretty good coping with age but still.

If it's been stored in climate control it's probably still pretty good. Doesn't need to be refrigerated as importantly as kept out of the 75F and higher range. I left Fuji Superia 800 in a cool basement for 12 years and it shot almost like new.

There is definitely a bit of fog, but it’s not overwhelming. I’ve shot fresh Tmax 400 before, and it looks almost identical to the normal base density on that. If there was no fog, it would be almost entirely transparent, which would be amazing to see, but still the fact that it’s as good as it is after 20 years is pretty impressive

Yes, it has been stored climate controlled for its entire life.
