Kodak test film?

Was sorting through my (dwindling) supply of 35mm film stock and came across a few rolls of Kodak test film "400 speed". I've never shot it and don't even know if it's color or bw. That said, I know PE trolls this forum so there ya go.

Would like help identifying the history/details behind this other than it's obviously a test film. Nothing comes up in an APUG search OR an Ebay search (!)

Kodak test films from both the plant and KRL were clearly marked with the coating number and process. All test films that I ever saw were in black cannisters and the test numbers began with FE, FW or had a J in the first two characters.

Is there anything on the other side?

This might have been something sent to an editor of a magazine or something like that. Gee, maybe you have one of the Kodachrome 400 t-grain coating tests. Muahahaha.

I vaguely remember having some very early Kodacolor 400 films in such a package in the mid-70s.

Fred, I coated some of them and I don't remember that type of package.

I still have a few black cans here with FE and FW numbers.

Nothing on the other side but some dx coding. NO other print except what you see in the pic.

FWIW the base on the emulsion side is BEIGE.

To find out if it is color neg film, I suppose you could cut off a small piece of the leader and fix it to see if you get an orange mask or not.

Could the film have been loaded by someone else, rather than it being an original Kodak packing ?

I could always put it on Ebay with a starting price of $500! While I was looking for someone else selling it I found someone selling 10 35mm film canisters for $10! I could be a millionaire!

I've been thinking of that possible explanation, but it is still strange having no process information there.

I have nothing else to contribute. Spose I'll do a clip test to see what it is and shoot it and see what happens.
