Kodak Slide N Scan

Came across this Kodak Slide N Scan being offered for <$30 shipped.* While I wouldn't really consider this for its scanning abilities, what caught my eye was the ability to use it to view slides/negatives. And then I wondered, is there anything out there, similar to this, which could be hooked up to modern television so as to perform a slide-show in much the same fashion that the old projectors were used? That is, is there any machine out there where I could view, similar to this Kodak Slide N Scan, real-time images of slides/negatives on a television? I've put together "slide shows" to watch on my television, but these were all pre-scanned, then loaded into a program for viewing... all work had to be done on a computer prior. I think it would be nice to be able to view images from slides/negatives simply by throwing them in a machine like this.

No need, as it's already clear from his post that the device doesn't do what he would like, and he also knows it.

Don't think so, but if you're creative, you could hook up a digital camera with live view and a macro lens on a tripod/rail, focus on a slide mounted a short distance away so it fills the entire image, and backlight the slide. Just like many people do for 'scanning' slides & negatives with a digital camera. Should work with any camera that has HDMI out, which is probably just about every modern camera.

Of course this could be tried, but sort of turns into a RubeGoldberg-type fiasco, defeating the purpose of conveniently showing one's photos to an at-home audience.

Having said that, what you're looking for is basically the setup I described packaged in a convenient box. I don't think it exists.

This Kodak machine is the closest I've seen... and I found another video where it appears it'll do what I want. Maybe I'll give it a try.

Yeah, that looks like a decent solution. Image quality is probably abysmal especially on a bigger screen...but perhaps that's not a deal breaker.

This Kodak machine is the closest I've seen... and I found another video where it appears it'll do what I want. Maybe I'll give it a try.

Does it work with 35mm film already in individual slide holders? The picture shows 35mm film strips.

It does have a HDMI cable port.

I use something similar, a low budget Wolverine scanner. The results are very good! It's used just to proof 35mm negs, but you could make some nice prints from one. Mine can also use different film formats.

I don't know of any that can work with mounted slides.
