Hi everyone,
do anyone has fresh news about the status of:
1) Kodak chemicals manufacturing/distribution worldwide?
2) Tetenal manufacturing status after the bankrupt of Norderstedter Chemiewerke GmbH?

Kodak Xtol and D76 seem nowhere to be found in the entire Europe.

According to Alan Ross about 3 hours ago via a Freestyle Facebook update, Sino Promise has shut down.

Isn't this the same story reported quite a number of weeks ago? It prompted me to say that if it was true then in the coming weeks this should manifest itself in retailers' shelves being run down and eventually cleared of Kodak stocks. However I was a little surprised how little of a reaction the announcement got here on Photrio

It was as if it was seen as something not to be too worried about. It then "died a death" as a thread and I can't recall seeing anything about it until the OP's post

What the real situation is remains a puzzle for me

I'm very concerned about the Kodak chemicals unavailability and the Sino Promise shut down. Very concerned, because it means bye bye to Xtol, Tmax dev, D76, Hc110, which don't have 100% clones out there, despite there are some products that can resemble the origina ones.
Hope the situation can get all sorted out in a timely fashion.

I still have a supply of unopened XTOL, however if I later have trouble getting XTOL there is an excellent Photrio thread on XTOL alternatives.

Yeah, I will need to switch to ILfords version of HC 110. I had intended to buy ILford but Freestyle out of stock at the time, and my local shop had HC110 in stock. .

Yes and others may have a supply as well but overall the worry has to be: Can the other "makers" of the equivalent Kodak chemicals fill the hole that SinoPromise closure leaves?

Good point. I don't think Adox XT-3 (or Foma EXCEL) can be the exact equivalent of Kodak X-TOL, nor I think Bellini EURO HC can be the exact substitute of Kodak HC-110.
Maybe one of the chemical that can be considered the exact clone of Kodak D76 is Ilford ID-11, but it's much more expensive, at least in the EU.

I'm an Xtol fan but there are so many alternatives out there, it's not worth worrying about... I mix up my own developers from scratch anyway... way more fun 🙂

I'm more concerned about C-41 chemistry. I currently use the Kodak Flexicolor chemicals because I am not a fan of BLIX and other processes.

That has been a concern since digital started eclipsing film. We just have to live with that and work around that.

FujiHunt has proper e6 and c-41 chemistry, on par with Kodak's (or even better).

The last developer Kodak designed was Xtol, Foma and Adox both make a version, not sure if anyone make the replenisher. Still if you are really wedded to Kodak buy while you still can.

Xtol is unique, Adox and Foma's imitation will never be the exact same developer.
Same for d76: Ilford Id-11 is not the same.
Kodak chemicals demise will be a huge loss.

Yes, they may not be the exact same, technically, but for me, they will do fine.
Personally, I'm not going to split hairs over D76 vs ID11, etc.

I would not call it a huge loss, there are many very good developers that give similar results as Xtol, D76, large numbers of clones, Legacy Pro version of HC110, Studional, Photographers Formulary updated version of D76, ect, ect.

Am I correct in assuming that the Tetenal E6 kits will never be available again?

Any news?

Some thread here reported, that Tetenal's E-6 kit will reappear later in fall season. Which sort of tells me, that Tetenal is still alive but apparently struggling.

Yes, it will be very difficult to buy Kodak chemical outside of China in the future.

Unless Sino Promise sells its chem business to other companies

Except BW,I think the most worrying thing is that Kodak's flexicolor C41 is irreplaceable for commercial processors (V30) . Even the processing lab I know in China have stocked up with dozens of boxes of C41 chem

To my knowledge, Fuji have C41 chemical packs suited to the Noritsu V30 (replenishment tanks of 20L) See their details here.

The only difference (to me) between minilab & prolab chemicals is the package sizes/volume.

The availability of these chemicals, to local market, may be different.
