Kodak retina automatic iii questions

Im new here, and new to film. Since im only 22 digital has been mostly through my whole life that I can remember.

I just picked up a mint retina and was wondering a few things. what filters and lens hoods work for this camera, and how do you attach a tripod to this camera?

Kodak made quite a large range of cameras called Retina. The ones I have seen have a standard tripod bush on the bottom plate. I would imagine that they all have. Retinas were made from the mid-1930s to 1970. They used a variety of lenses and so it is not possible to say about filters and lens hoods without knowing the precise lens used.

the automatic iii was the only one made like this. The one with the non removable lens. And i have the manual, that doesnt tell me much.

It takes Series filters, but I am unsure which ones - Series V?

There may be two tripod mount threads on the bottom, with one used for attaching the case, and the other in the middle of the ring which has the back release button cover concentric to it.

I am not sure about the filters, but with Retinas with the lever wind on the bottom, there was an adapter that fitted the tripod mount on the bottom and fitted into the black plastic in the center of the bottom plate to make the tripod mount in the middle, I have been using Retinas for years, love them, and I have never seen one, they seem to be as rare as hens teeth, I just manage with the offset tripod screw, as for filters, I use small old filters or cut down Cokin filters cut down carefully and good old blu tak, works a treat,

Sounds like you got a nice camera. I just got a Retina (thrift store find) that seems to be a similar model to yours. Mine has a fixed lens, a Schneider-Kreuznach f2.8/45mm Retina-Xenar.

I have some Kodak Series V and VI filters in my stash and so far none of those seem to fit my lens. The manual for my camera mentions some filters etc. such as the Kodak Retina 32 Lens Hood, the Retina Close-Up Kit Model C (which requires a Kodak Retina Camera Platform, Model C) etc. If you want more specifics let me know.

Mine came with a 46mm lens cap that says Made in West Germany; I don't know if that's original to the camera but it fits nice and snug over the outer edge of the lens. This lens is more recessed than some of the other Kodaks I have that take the Series filters, so it makes me think at least some of the Retinas must have had their own type filters and hoods.

The Retinas were made in Germany, and like other German cameras had available to them a wide range of accessories, including filter, lens shades, close-up lenses, viewfinders and more.

The one thing that the German camera makers did was standardize many of their accessories, so that they could be used across a series of cameras, instead of requiring the user to buy a new filter or lens shade for every lens or camera.

I'll dig out my Retina IIS and see if can share filters from the later folding Retinas (b/B, c/C). A lens hood for the folding Retinas is a bayonet, so it won't fit the IIS and probably wouldn't fit the Automatic III.

Yeah i noticed the offset tripod mount and was confused on how that worked, all my digitals have center mounts so I wasnt sure. I really have never used a tripod before. Mostly I just used point and shoot cameras, but now i want to get into film shooting more, so I want to know alot abut filters and stuff. I know only what Ive read so far. Yes my book as named lenses too. but when i look them up on ebay it gives me more then what im looking for.

I just got a Kodak Retina Automatic 3. I had it CLA'd at Chicago Camera. I am looking for the correct lens shade. It probably is a 39mm push on. There are no threads on the outer portion of the lens but it looks like the inner part of the lens accepts 39mm accessories.
