This is what the lens looks like through the open shutter. It appears to be on the surface of the glass. It seems to be only visible when looking at it this way (at least to my eyes). When I got the camera, the lens was visibly cloudy from the front and from the film chamber. Carefully disassembling, allowed me to clean and lubricate the works (Thank you Retina Rescue), and clean the lenses as well. Except for this one. Everything I have used to try and remove this light "haze" has resulted in failure. It's a far cry better than it was when I got it, but...
Any suggestions, please?

Those marks are probably permanent. This is what happens to a lens surface when its had oil and fungus left on it for forty years.

Thank you Paul, this is also what some of my research has turned up as well. I am planning to run a roll of film through it in the future, and I will see how bad the damage is then.

Hi Bill, thank you for the offer, but this is the Schneider-Kreuznach 2.8/50mm lens.

Romanko, I have not tried hydrogen peroxide yet. Will do so shortly. Thank you. I have tried alcohol, ammonia solution, and industrial glass cleaner, as well as good old fashioned Dawn and warm water. If all else fails, I MAY try some brake cleaner on a q-tip (being mindful of what I touch of course), and see what happens. I have another Retina IIIc type 21 that is in much better condition. This Retina was an antique store find, but for thirty bucks for a full kit, I couldn't go wrong even if the lens is a loss.

On that surface of the rear lens group, the damage is going to have the effect of reducing image contrast a tiny amount. It will not affect sharpness. IE: its insignificant damage as far as reducing the usefulness of the camera.
