Kodak ready load in fuji holder

Will this work? I know the answer is in the archives somewhere but I can't find it. I have a portrait project I want to do and want to use the kodak neg film, but I have a fuji holder.

I have not used Fuji’s Quickload film holder, but according to fellow Apuger Trevor Crone (Black & White Photography Issue 62 p70) it only accepts Fuji Quickloads. A Kodak Readyload holder accepts both systems, as do Polaroid 545 film backs.

In my experience, no. A given packet may work because of manufacturing tolerances, but I think you would not get consistent enough results to say that Kodak readyloads in a Fuji holder would work.

Generally either film packet will work in the other system holder. However, if you get the film loaded flipped wrong side, or ham-fist it into position, you can jamb the holder. If you get film jambed in either holder, that means opening the holder to get it unstuck. If you try working too fast, too clumsy, or are just impatient with film packets, it will cause problems most of the time.

I have successfully used either packet in either holder, mixing and matching is no problem. My preference is to use the proper holder for the name branded film, so I own both systems. It is possible to consider one as back-up for the other. I would never go on a paid shoot with just one packet holder, even if I am only shooting one type of film.

Kodak discontinues RoadyLoads (and holders) ...

"Due to decreasing sales", Kodak is discontinuing all ReadyLoad films and the holder by the end of the year- what's now in stock is probably it, so this won't be an issue going forward. I'm sure Fuji will appreciate the additional business.

Interestingly enough, please note that Kodak designed their readyload holders in such a way as to accept both Fuji and Kodak products, but Fuji designed their holders to accept only Fuji film. This is another case of Kodak leading the way and then making sure of compatibility.

Kinda. It will fit and de-clip and re-clip. It doesn't have a proper pressure plate, but I've been using this setup for doing macro (maximum depth of focus) on a rb67 with a 545 back and it's lovely. I wrote about it in a blog; I did some minor surgery on the 545 to make the quickloads work a bit more smoothly (I found that part of the 545 mechanism was sometimes hanging on the clip, so I simply removed that mechanism and voila).

For reasons that we've discussed in another thread an in PM, I am losing my enthusiasm for developing on the spot in the 545 backs, especially for type 55. So I am doing surgery on my 545s so that I don't have to worry about the button and whether the clips will hang up.

P.S. I should mention that I haven't tried the 545 with readyloads, only quickloads.

I've used Readyloads in them with no problems.

I have some Acros Quickloads and if I get the chance I'll try it in my 545 holder.

I've migrated to Fuji, who seem to care and do it well. Wish it were otherwise, but in today's environment, there's no "staying power" in most companies.
