It's become traditional for members to complain about the increasing cost of film and paper. While not understanding the value of such posts (buy it, don't buy it, go digital, whatever), I decided to provide a venue where Kodak's detractors can vent.

I would love to switch to Kodak film in LF, however TXP 320 or TMAX in 4x5 are already almost double what Ilford ask for a similar product... and now I read this

Supply and demand. Sounds like good news for KODAK and photographers. The price of everything is going up, and inflation has been at a 40 year high -- but consumer spending has not been dampened at all -- surprising everyone.

Plus cost of materials and labor. I am willing to pay the higher prices so that I can continue getting film. My freezer is full of film so it will take me a while to restock.

They (Eastman Kodak) have seen huge increases in the costs of everything they buy, plus they are still seeing disruptions and increased costs in relation to getting constituent components to them. The same would probably apply to Kodak Alaris' part in the process of getting film to customers.
Of course, 40% at the top doesn't mean 40% for every product.

Foma! Foma! Foma! The 100 and 400 are both excellent films and at a fraction of the cost of Tri-X. I still buy Tri-X occasionally, but never new, always on fleabay or somewhere. They still haven't managed to mess that up. Yet. Ilford's Delta 100 is a great film too.

I'm not complaining about Kodak's prices, mind you. I just never buy anything from them anymore. Out of sight, out of mind. Just say no. We are very fortunate to have so many really good B&W films available to us from a lot of different companies.

Yep, the cost of everything is going up. One of our local breweries just raised the cost of a pint to $4 from the $3 it had been for 12 years. I won't be consuming any less of the product and film would have to get WAY more expensive before I stopped using it.

Worldwide the prices of everything are going up. No country leaders have the power stop it and the cycle has to play out.

In some years I've bought extra before the price increases. Then, after the scare headlines have subdued, I've found the price increase was far lower than I expected and I had a lot of film which sometimes took ages to work through.

Despite so many Brits blaming the "ba$tard Tories" and Americans blaming Biden, this is a global issue. And was sadly inevitable. Best we can hope for is that prices stabilise and perhaps drop a little in the coming years.

When Color Plus disappeared from the shelves it was £6.50 at my local independent shop, as little as £4.50 from online retailers. Now it's £9-10 everywhere. But I will buy it, because it's one of my favourite colour negative films.

The thing is, a cycle usually means it goes in a circle but I cannot see this circle continuing where prices will drop.

The last time I bought Kodak film was... maybe 2 years ago?

I buy Fuji for regular colour film, Lomo if I want something fun, re-packaged copy film if I want something really fun, and Kentmere for B&W.
