Isn't Vision 3 mainly for movies? Why would you use it for stills especially because of the remjet problem?

Because it’s affordable. About the same as most B&W films. Developing is a bit of a challenge, whether you do it yourself, or use a lab. But for many, this is outweighed by the cost savings. Plus it has a unique look, and a very broad latitude. Now if I could get a bulk roll of portra or gold, for <$200, that would be preferable.

400ft of Ektar would be awesome. What the heck, 400ft of TriX400 too.

I will be happy just seeing Kodak stay in business.

You can buy 400ft of 5222 today - direct from Eastman Kodak.
It will give you relatively similar results to Tri-X, providing you can deal with the 400ft length, and you can live without frame numbers:
See page 20 of the brand new February 15, 2023 catalog $316.56 USD: https://www.kodak.com/content/produ...-Motion-Picture-Products-Price-Catalog-US.pdf
You will need to order by phone: https://www.kodak.com/en/motion/page/order-film
There are also Canadian and EU catalogues - the Canadian price is $421.02 CND

Film wise I would like:

1) Fast slide film like Ektachrome P1600
2) Bulk load of their 3200

What I think Kodak is doing wrong as a business is a lack of branding and outreach. If you go to reddit and search r/analog, I would say 90% of the photos posted are taken with Portra or Gold. Their demographics are young people who want to be engaged and feel like a part of something. Not the old farts like us. They are basically boomer marketing and merchandising the company.

It boggles my mind how Kodak does not market themselves like Ilford. compare their twoish websites. Ilford has tutorial videos, videos about photographers, articles, products. All of this is easy to access and find. I;ford wisely seperated their other products from the film site.

Look at Kodak's site. Everything that Eastman does is all there. Hard to find and no how to videos, spotlight on photographers. Nothing about their history and who used their products?

They do have a film club but that website is impossible to find and hasn't been updated in a bit. All of the "club" activities take place in Rochester.

W ho is co-ordinating all these responses and sending them to Kodak or was that not the point of this thread?

Shit man, I will. I'm unemployed at the moment and not doing anything. Maybe they will hire me.

In 2003 an exhaustive Kodak marketing research project showed that sponsoring the 2000 Summer Olympics and the 2001 Winter Olympics and additionally paying for massive advertizing, did not influence their sales at all. So your thoughts in this case do not align with the facts. Why do people think that the Kodak employees are totally unaware and never had an original thought in their lives?

No one. Everyone one stating wishes is just venting.

Then again, 'branding and outreach' are not quite the same as a massive advertising campaign. While the latter can be an extension or part of the implementation of branding, they're really very different things.

Having said that, I don't quite agree with the original statement that there's a lack of branding and outreach. Well, at least in terms of branding - I think Kodak is still one of the most recognizable brands on the planet, which is very disproportional to its economic impact. Outreach is a different story; while they do appear to try quite a number of things, one can always wonder how well concerted the approach is.

There Outreach is either slightly above or slightly below none.

I want the little box ends for the memo holder on camera backs. Ilford still packages single rolls, so the box tabs are readily available.

I'm not going to be holding my breath for this wish. 😃

The toilet had just been flushed at that point. Their sales were spiralling the tank and about to vanish from sight. Throwing a bucket of money in there may have slowed that down a tiny bit but there was not going to be a net positive at that point in history.

Their stupidity was in never trying to convince people that film was actually good.

It has been a while since I bought a roll of Kodak film. Are there no longer box ends for the memo holder on camera backs? Just curious. I never used them. If there was any doubt in my mind what film was in my camera, I looked at the ASA dial.

35mm Portra is available in propacks, Ektar single rolls. Same with TMX.
120 interchangeable backs need identifiers, I can usually cut out a tab from the Propacks. It's not a big thing.

The small tabs are on the boxes of five rolls.

Outside of Motion Picture film, Eastman Kodak is a manufacturer only - they have contracted out all their still film marketing and distribution to Kodak Alaris.
And Kodak Alaris are the ones who would most likely do something with any information in this thread, because they are the ones who monitor and try to influence sales trends.
They (Kodak Alaris) were the main motivators for the re-introduction of Ektachrome, although the motion picture division of Eastman Kodak was happy to support that as well.
Here is their public facing website: https://imaging.kodakalaris.com/photographers/film

Well not true as Hubigpielover has saíd he will undertake the task so hopefully others with what are now only wishlists can help him formulate a summary of our responses However I do agree that simply sending in whole list as if it were a Santa letter from dozens of kids will not work or even have any impact

2000 was a long time ago. The film market was just starting to die and the Olympics wasn't going to save it. Now that it's come back to life might be a good time to restart. Also, it has to be coordinated with Kodak Alaris since Kodak sells the film to them. Alaris should take the lead, not Eastman Kodak.

Their mistake was not to accept digital. They were trying to protect the film industry that was their lifeblood. They would rather go down with the ship than change course. How many of us wait too long to change before it's too late? A good lesson there.

If you buy a five pack, there are no individual boxes. What I use is a piece of masking tape that I write on and slap on the back of the camera.

Scanning through this thread, I'm surprised at the lack of calls for Kodachrome. I know it's not going to happen, but I want my Kodachrome back!!

Me and Paul Simon, that's two of us...

Me too, so make that three!
