Kodak Panoram 1D problem

I just put my first test roll through a Kodak No. 1D Panoram (1917 or earlier, no ratchet mechanism) and most things seem to work (no light leaks), but every picture has what seems to be a horizontal blur as if the camera shook from side to side. All exposures were tripod mounted on a Manfrotto that's more than stable enough for this camera. Vertical lines are blurry, horizontal not so much. All 4 were shot on the higher tension setting. You can see the shots at the link below. Any ideas what the problem is? The lens/shutter swings as it should, but does seem to go faster in one direction than the other. For reference, in the brick wall shot the wall is about 15 feet from the camera at the closest point. Notice how the verticals between bricks are nonexistant, but the horizontal lines are well defined if blurry.

Ignore the dust and crap on the scan, and the general out-of-focus issues, those I'll fix after I get the horizontal blur fixed.

ask james guerin, he is currently trying out one of these cams. i once tried out the very same cam. see my thread from Sep 4, 2016.
Cam need overhaul by an expert. better getting an overhauled noblex. Noblex Canada, siggi can do that, he has bought all spare parts.

My first guess is that the 1D has a wide slit which affects sharpness. If the slit was narrower you get a sharper image, of course with less exposure. I have two baby al vistas. One is a cheaper version, and has a wide slit. It's images are a lot blurrier, and would be more so on the horizontal plane due to lens rotation. Just a guess

Italian Gardens was made with an ALVISTA. photographer told it was a big pain. Guerin is about to use a sharper lens. Noblex-success is very small slit. Widelux is a bit less sharp with sharpness-problems below 5m. optical problem. I was told narrowing slit on Roundshot 65/70/220 resulting is sharper image. thats what i did with tape.3mm instead of 3.5mm. 220VR having multiple slit width. Horizon having up to 4. 35mm Roundshot having multiples. twp rotating speeds on 35S.
Problem in all theses slitcams above all MF is bent film on slit. Lens should correct this. maybe in Noblex they had the right lens. one must ask Siggi or Urban at kst dresden. or schorle. they made eyescan 624/Schorlex.

Thanks!I have shot lots of photos with Al-Vista's, and it is challenging. I've shot with the baby al vista, and the Al Vista 4B, 5B, 7E, and 7F. Loading and moving film through the cameras can be challenging. The cameras are pretty sharp. Narrowing the slit on any of these cameras will produce sharper images but banding is increased. When the #16 cirkut camera was first produced you could change the slit size but the option was removed soon after because of this.
