PKM-25, was that the Mar/Apr issue?

Yes, congrats on your three images, I liked the last one the best, the tension between the far ends of the frame.

Easy to say. After hearing Chinese 10 hours a day at work, the LAST thing I want to do is fill my free time with that..

Oh yes if only the whole planet was speaking English... Local dialects like Mandarin Chinese French or German should be a thing of the past!

Spanish is the majority language in the USA?

In the UK Patel is the most common surname.

I'll chime in for a comment here.

Production seems to be going at the "usual" pace at Kodak Park. So, the "normal" amount of film should be out there in the pipeline or on the shelves.

I can confirm this : I just took possession of 500 Tri-X films (exp. 6/2016) without a glitch. I'm in Europe btw.

Looks like the prices are going up and up! I still like Trix better than HP5, but Neopan 400 was my number 1.

What? You an ilford user then?

Yes and Fuji... Delta100/HP5+/Acros100 (and Neopan400 when it was around)/Velvia50Velvia100/Provia100f

No kodak for me. But that's just my preference, it doesn't make sense to afford it, to me I get the results I need from those other companies and results I like better and cheaper prices. So why use Kodak out of nostalgia? No thank you. I would use Tri-X TX400) in sheet film, but it doesn't exist, I don't like TX320 and don't shoot a lot of 35mm

I love Neopan 400, too. Some shops in Tokyo still have some left. I am buying everything I come across.

883 Yen = 6,4€, ouch... And TMAX-400/36 is even more expensive.

And that's only for 24-exposure rolls. It's impossible to buy Tri-X here in Kyoto or Osaka (I just bought the last 3-pack they had in Osaka), and naturally all the HP5+ is gone too as photographers need to make do with the loss (personally I use both interchangeably). They keep changing the notices about when they'll be in stock. Lots of TMAX around in both stores though. I was able to order some Tri-X online from Yodobashi which makes me wonder why they can offer it online but not in any of the stores (that goes for Ilford too).

All stores in Tokyo have it in stock right now. I assume that when you order online it comes from a warehouse in Tokyo.

Of course! But why can't the warehouse provide stock for the brick and mortar stores in the rest of the country?

However, having received the film I ordered less than 24 hours after I ordered it, I have to say that I'm impressed. Plus I saved 5 bucks in train fare that it takes just to get to the store!

It doesn't make much sense to me either but as long as we can still get it I'm happy. By the way, check bic camera online. I got better prices for all my films there this month.

Hi Rachelle

It is a cunning plan to get everyone in Ja to switch to Ilford or Foma.

And note the Yen price for Tri-x is now more than the London UK price.

Im expecting an increase here as well.

The Uni arts students clean out my store of Foma at the start of terms that need film shots.

Noel,

...or Fuji? There's lots of their stock around, even if they no longer have the same equivalents to Kodak and Ilford. Tokyo is great in that it's possible to buy some of the smaller brands (now just Foma, Rollei, even Lomo-branded film, but in the past there was a lot more) but the rest of Japan mostly sticks to the big three: Fuji, Kodak, and Ilford (in that order). As for uni students shooting film...I know from experience that some members of the "film clubs" at universities shoot film, but I don't know that there are any classes that still support film/darkroom work. It might be possible at an arts university, but I've never taught at one.

When I got my first SLR in 2001 (a Nikon FE, which I still shoot with), most of the old Japanese photographers (all men, all retired) would kind of laugh at me, gently, like someone who didn't know any better (they were all shooting the latest Canon automatic whatevers) but they usually offered very useful advice. Now I kind of get wistful looks (from the same population -- it seems only younger people are shooting film here in Japan) whenever they spot my old manual film camera, whatever it may be. However, it's obvious that film still has a major following here in Japan, compared to most other places, because it's still possible to find film coolers and darkroom sections in camera stores, and getting film developed locally, whether slide, negative, or black and white, 35mm, 120, or large format, is still doable, and reasonably fast and cheap. One of the reasons why I prefer to live and work in Japan (as opposed to Canada) is for that very reason.

Eric -- thanks for the heads-up about Bic. I've used them before, but have always thought of them as a lesser version to Yodobashi (in Kyoto that's certainly the case). I'll definitely check them out the next time I put an order in.

HiRachelle

Yes I had omitted Fuji, - ACROS and CN won't suit everyone working in mono. Very rare I work with 100 ISO. But many do cause I got lots of aggravation when Plus-X was cancelled.

Currently...
Forma do four types
Ilford nine types (as well as Kentmere)
Kodak three
Fuji two
...

My brick supply shop is next to arts Uni so beginning of term stock dissappears, 2nd hand prices of K1000s and OM1s escalate... across London. Resupply a few weeks.

http://shop.silverprint.co.uk/Ilford-Bamp;W-Film/catalogue/174/

They are next to a street market good for pictures.

We still have processing labs here only a few bus or underground rail stops away.

A brick Lomo shop!

So things are not bad.
