Seeing the writing on the wall of the future of film but pointing to a generation old contract and forcing the supplier to stick to it is a bad way to protect the future of that business. It's not 2008 anymore. The world of photography has had a massive shift. Almost as big as the shift from film to digital. Give the customers what they want, not what cooperate made a deal with. Imagine if Coke comes out and says 'We can't see Vanilla Coke anymore because only McDonalds has the distribution for Vanilla and there's nothing we can do about it.' A strong company always finds a way to satisfy their customer base. Pointing to Alaris is a lame excuse.
How about Eastman starts their own line of film? Eastman Original.
Sounds like Harmon 2.0. haha. Pheonix is grainy, but I got my start in film shooting P3200 so... the partner loves to wear red and pheonix does that pretty well. Maybe in 120 it'll be worth shooting seriously? I'd love to see some new stocks out of Rochester. How about Eastman starts their own line of film? Eastman Original.
Seems like it's now in partial effect in Europe as well. At least one of the largest resellers of Kodak Cine stock in Germany changed their website and doesn't sell to individuals anymore...

Actually I wonder if this move by Kodak is somehow related to this poor performance...
Guys, it's not a big deal, really! All things considered.
What things?
- Inadequate pricing for
- the poor product quality.
? WHAT, KODAK MAKES A POOR PRODUCT?
! YES!
Someone said that Kodak has monopoly on Slide film, but in it's current iteration E100/E100D leaves a projectionist dumbfounded. So Kodak might have a monopoly on a poor Slide Film.
What makes it poor? Resolution (objective, measurable) and color balance (subjective, valid).
Ektachrome E100 and E100D projected next to any Fuji film looks poor at 50x magnification. So poor in fact that it's downright unacceptable to me who shoots and have been shooting slides exclusively, using the same lab for all my E-6 needs.
E100 projected next to BW Slide looks plain atrocious.
But it costs effin 30EUR in EU! An overpriced film for sure - especially for the qualities on display.
It will work:
- with subjects that aren't really detailed and
- low magnifications, but Slide Film isn't really about either of these.
So I feel no loss and I keep waiting for Fuji to unfuji itself to have my Provia and Velvia - superb films in every metric
Vision 3 was/is quite lovely and that'd be sad to see it being taken away.
I have 0 respect towards Kodak / Alaris and their questionable business practices.
Have you seen Kodak branded SSD's?

I find it to be sufficient. But I am not projecting it, just viewing it it with a loupe on a light-table.
I greatly prefer the more accurate color balance of Ektachrome, although I warm it up a bit by using a KR3.
What warming filters have you used with it?
