This seems to be a good fit for EK. Now if the Government would give Kodak the money to buy the film division from Alaris we would be doing great. There are a lot of very talented people that can make generic drug ingredients . This is a good idea.

They already have a specialty chemicals division. I suspect they will develop formulas and scale up.

They have an on-site specialist organic chemicals lab who are extremely experienced in the production of complex fine chemicals - it's almost surprising this step hadn't happened earlier.

so this is about the third time they "started" to make drugs and critical chemicals. Wonder if they will decide it is a worthwhile business this time.

I think this is a great idea. I take a couple generic Rx, both made in India. Bandaids are made in Brazil. Big companies chasing cheap labor and no regulations. Hopefully this isn't a pork barrel scheme.

The skilled labor and talent around Rochester needs to get back to creating value.

I imagine that the skilled labour and talent around Rochester would like to do so . The problem is that they are the "workers" who have talent and application. They are not the capitalists i.e. those who own the means of production and with that ownership, control everything.

Most likely it is the availability of cheap credit that makes it worthwhile.
They lack capital.

I don't think so in the aggregate because there is a clear strategic mandate. Hopefully, managed globalism versus unbridled globalism is the future for the US. It is unwise to be too dependent on the good nature of other nations. With that said, I am sure that a good number of companies will take Uncle Sam for a ride. I hope Kodak isn't one of them for so many reasons. I lived in Rochester as a kid when my mother worked for Xerox as a chemist. I would like to see Kodak and Rochester thrive.

Color film is one of the most complex comodities ever produced, generic drugs should look easy in comparison. They don't have to develop any formula, just produce it.

Fuji already produce pharmaceuticals. IIRC, at the beginning of the pandemic, one of their drugs had shown good results against COVID-19 and their stock value increased quite a bit.

Kodak used to have a subsidiary called Eastman Chemical, which was spun off decades ago. They're doing fine, as opposed to Kodak...

Let us not forget that Fuji is more of a chemical company than the film/photo company that we are mostly familiar with. Indeed several former film manufacturers have longer histories as manufacturers of chemicals/medicines....which makes sense as film photography is a branch of chemistry. Nonetheless this could be good for Kodak and their employees.

My understanding is that Kodak has outsourced it's chemistry division for a decade or longer, not sure who or where the current chemistry is being made. Most of the campus at Rochester has been leveled, don't know what infrastructure is left or can be repurposed or what talent it has on hand.
