Hi,

Just stumbled on a Kodak GBX-2 safelight with a 15w bulb.
I understand that this was used for X-ray dental film dev.
Safe to use with B&W printing? I will do some testing tonight
but maybe some of you have advice?

thanks, jf

GBX filters were made for green sensitive film (ortho) used in the high-speed, rare earth intensifying systems of the '80s and '90s. It wouldn't be good for regular darkroom use. Would fog most materials, I think.

I have used GBX-2 safelight with B&W materials without any problem, if you dig up Kodak's publication on safelights (# TI0845) you'll see that the cut-off for a 1A filter is almost teh same as a GBX-2 filter (at approx. 600nm)

That said it's always a good idea to do a fog test for a darkroom light (Kodak publication K-4)

Best,

Cor
