Kodak Carousel 850 focus repair

Does anyone have experience repairing these kodak slide projectors? I have a unit with everything working except the focusing knob. I'm pretty sure the gears are worn since I have to pull the lens out and focus it manually. When I try to focus with the knob it slips or skip teeth.

The repair kit only have parts to fix the advance and reverse of the carousel tray.

Projectors are not of major interest here at Apug. In case no one comes up with a ready-made solution, you would have to open that thing, take photographs and let us advise based on these.
