Does anyone know how well Kodak's brown toner works with Ilford fiber based glossy papers? I'm thinking about getting some.

Im about to try it myself. The combination of selenium and brown toning looks really interesting and any pointers would be well appreciated.

With the Ilford Warmton FB paper, Kodak brown toner works exceedingly well. It's one of my favorite combinations (I shoot a lot of scenes that work better in warmtone). I've not tried it with the Ilford neutral papers, as I save those for when I want to avoid warm tones. I imagine that the Kodak brown toner would be very effective on the neutral Ilford papers...it's a powerful toner and I've yet to find a paper that it couldn't take to brown very easily.

Best of luck...let us know how things go for you.

Be well.
Dave

works very nicely, i found i like the tone better when the print has a bit more contrast than usual.

You make an excellent point Ann...I've found this to be true as well.

Ilford Multigrade IV FB hardly tones at all with Kodak Browntoner and Kodak Rapid Selenium, but beutifully with Kodak Sepiatoner (bleach and tone).

Ilford Multigrade Warmtone FB tones easily with Kodak browntoner and Rapid Selenium toner(rather cool red). I am less enthusiastic about the color it gets from Kodak Sepiatoner though.

Those are my experiences with Ilford fiber and toning.

I have found that Brown Toner will cause a distinct warming effect on Inford Multigrade (aka Arista) paper. Tim Rudman suggests mixing at a fairly high dilution - he notes that the unpublished recommendations from Kodak are 1+31. My experience is that half and ounce of concentrate in a quart of water works well. Rudman also points out that Brown Toner is very slow at room temperature, but accelerates nicely at higher temperatures. He suggests 100 degrees F - I tend to use "hot" water, whatever that turns out to be.

Here's an example of a print on Arista FB (aka Ilford MG) toned in Kodak Brown followed by very dilute selenium.

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

I have only toned a few Multigrade FB prints in Kodak's Brown toner, but have to say I really like the color - sort of a purplish brown. It is really really slow at room temperature. And it does stink - really bad. Still I like the look a lot and suspect I will be using it a lot more in the future.
