But this Guess Blog on the Kodak site does give a success story of someone getting usable images out of a 50 year old roll of Verichrome pan, using 1 hour in "Rodinal at 1:100 at 20 degrees C."

Pictures look fairly good considering..

If it could be done in rodinal, it could just as easily be done in HC110.

Rodinal 1+100 for 1 hr. is stand developing, which is a pretty good choice considering one doesn't have to worry about how long to develop, since overdeveloping isn't a consideration at stand dilutions. Stand development's only big disadvantage is loss of contrast, but I'm sure that wasn't important to them because they just wanted to salvage the images on the roll. Also, I've heard that HC110 might be preferable (as mrred said above) to minimize the fog, but I'm not sure where would be a good starting dilution or time with HC110 for an old roll in unknown state.
