Kodak Bantam?

Hey all!

I just bought one of these, and I hope it can take 35mm... Though I read it uses unsprocketed 35mm...

Help me out, please.

It takes 828 roll film which is the same overal width as 35mm.
Unsprocketed 35 would be fine if you can find a defunct roll of 828 for the spool and backing paper.

One of these days I am going to buy a Bantam Special.

The Bantams used 828 film which was revamped in a cartridge as 26

It's the same width as 35mm but it's on a roll film base so isn't unsprocketed 35mm

I managed to find some 828 film for sale online, at $18.85 or so in black and white... for 8 exposures. I'll buy three rolls and stash them in the fridge. I can use these later on as a kind of "intro" to using medium format, since it's not TOO far off from 120 roll film.

What do you guys think?

EDIT: a closer look at the seller picture has a red "Special" marking inside the lens, which is at f 4.5 ...

OK, I've been educated on film, but English English still eludes me. I had thought that I had heard, on the BBC, for example, such phases as, "Kodak have announced...".

Your memory is probably correct. Some subjects which are considered singular over here are usually treated as plural in Britain. Was it Churchill who observed that we are two countries divided by a common language?

Kodak's plural there's more than one of them Eastman Kodak and Kodak Ltd, the first American the other British and their Bantam cameras differed as well, the EK versions were made in the US some of the European versions in Germany in the Nagel factory.

It is unperforated 35mm rolled onto a metal spool with backing paper, in the style of 120 film. I have not tried rolling my own yet, but it should be possible if you salvage some backing paper or make your own. I am not sure what 35mm films are available in non-perf bulk rolls.

Just got the camera today. No spool inside and the metal is kind of flimsy. No holes in bellows! shutter works fine and i am very pleased. also came with a leather case.

A Bantam is handy for using up some of that unperforated microfilm and school portrait film floating around online. If you cut it right you can use the 4.5x6 markings on 120 paper backing to advance the film. The spacing is a little wide but you can still fit 8 exposures on a spool.

Someone on *bay has been offering unperf 35mm Portra 160 NC in 100 ft rolls.

You might be able to fashion a take-up spool from an old 126 Instamatic cartridge. They are much thinner than 35mm cassette spools.

But then, it may just be easier to find an 828 spool than an old 126 Instamatic cartridge !
