This could mean that Lomo will contract with Alaris/EK for some film coatings, which might keep EK's film division alive for a while longer. Happy happy happy.

To me the intersting thing is that hint at paper.

This is good. Another thread here is wondering if the new Alaris would do something direct with marketing. Well, here it is.

Yes, I was one of the main wonderers, and I couldn't agree more. This is possibly the single best piece of Kodak-brand news I've heard in the last 5+ years. Maybe longer.

So what do you think the chances of kodak branded 110 film are?

I just saw this in the mail now. Interestingly, lomo also has a subscription service, btw why isn't APUG partnering with lomo?

Because we old farts are to stubborn to step into the lomo world.

Who old farts?
I'd wager that many members here are under 35!
And besides dont we have an alternative process forum already?

This is the open letter from Kodak Alaris to all Lomographers:

(click here to download the letter as a PDF file)

It says that Alaris are committed to:
- "trusted and beloved Kodak-still-camera film products", and:
- "the widest range of traditional photographic paper and workflow solutions for labs".
It also says:
"More importantly, we will continue to offer the full portfolio of photographic films and papers." It then mentions Portra films, Tri-X and Endura Metallic paper.

Whatever I think of Lomography (as a company), I'm glad that these Kodak products will still be around.

BTW
About the "Kodak Alaris and Lomography Partner Up" statement. It looks like that the new "Kodak Alaris Company" is the successor of the "Eastman Kodak Company" for the manufacturing of film and paper and that Lomography agreed to sell these products through their channels. So it is probably not a real joint venture or something and the Kodak films and papers should be available through other sources as well, thus keeping the prices from rising to Lomo levels.

Last evening I read in a BJP posting that the Lomochrome Purple film was actually a new production run of Kodak Aerochrome, which had been out of production for some time. This is something I want to see. An occasional (maybe smaller) run of the lower popularity films. They'd make a batch once per year or even every other year. Buy when available or you miss out. Understand that a certain amount of pre-orders might be required.

Without going into excited overdrive, one thing to keep in the back of your mind is that the Lomo folks seem to like slide films. I seriously doubt that we'd see a Kodachrome resurrection, but they might partner up and do a run of, say, E100G if it was financed by pre-orders and there was a reasonable hope of selling all of it.

Time will tell!

Given how the Kodak thread went, I'd expect apug users to chant for lomo partnership too, at least I'd if it can keep more films in production!

I think this is great news. Lomo has been the smartest marketer in the photo world for the last 10 years. Say what you will about the products but they know how to sell. Good move.

The new company is British so expect some innovations and greater flexibility. More importantly they are free from the marketing influences of Peres and his cronies.
