A news story on a local radio station here in Toronto today stated that as of Mid-2009,Kodak will discontinue the manufacture of Kodachrome film.It also mentioned that Dwaynes in Kansas was the only place to have the film processed.Since then I haven't been able to verify this story.I don't know if this is the right forum for this thread, but I felt this needed to be told.Anybody else have similar news?.

I haven't found any official announcement from Kodak on the web so far. Maybe they are reinterpreting the line Kodak won't say when the last one occurred nor hint at Kodachrome's prospects. Kodachrome stocks currently on sale have a 2009 expiration date. from Photographers lament loss of Kodachrome as digital age reigns from AP article in september.

Though they did not come out and say it at Foto3, Kodak did indicate that its time is coming to an end. They did not say when. Maybe we can find out more at PhotoPlus later this month.

Mid 2009 is just a few months before the current last expiry dates for Kodachrome films and would mirror the withdrawal from othermarkets. They aren't going to sell outdated film.

Who knows the fate of Kodachrome, if I were Kodak, I would have it go out with a bang on it's 75th anniversary instead of a whimper.

I love Kodachrome and I will mourn it's loss but sending it off the Kansas for processing is a drag. I am comfortable shooting C-41 and E-6 for my colour needs.
