I am in Australia with some older pre-paid processing K64 is there any where in Australia that is still accepting K64. Note I am not worried about having to pay to get K64 processed. My question to the Australian users is where do you send your K64 off to. If it is not that expensive I detect a rather large purchase is on the way.

I mailed my film to Dwayne's Photo (Link here). $8AUS postage, plus a $1 padded envelope, for 10 rolls of film.
Print out the order form on the site, put down your details, and send it off with the film to the address. They can't tell you how much it will costs to get it mailed back to you for an international order, but for 10 rolls of processed slides I paid $18US for return shipping.
I don't think there's been anywhere in Australia that processes Kodachrome for a while now. But from the time I mailed the film to the time I got it back, it was around 2 weeks all up. They sent me an emailed when they'd mailed it back to me too.

Apparently there is an address for Kodak in Brisbane. You send it there & they take care of the processing. It will end up at Dwayne's. Then it will return via Kodak Brisbane. If the Kodachrome is pre paid processing then it won't cost you anything. If it's not pre paid they will call & tell you the price. I haven't done this but I know a guy who has done it this way a few times with 35mm & Super8.
If you are interested, let me know & I will ask him for the Brisbane contact.

Well... actually, according to that link, there's only one place left where Kodachrome is processed. Kodak Switzerland also sends the film to Dwayne's.
(Hm, I didn't know it had come this far already...)

, didn't pay much attention the text. So Dwayne is the only lab on this plane :surprised:

So it would seem, yes! So, the text "In fact, we are the only remaining Kodak certified processor of Kodachrome in the U.S." on their website can be updated to "In fact, we are the only remaining Kodak certified processor of Kodachrome in the world".

:surprised:

This really makes me think I should shoot some roles again before it's extinct...

Well, somehow a group was able to organize worldwide pinhole day, maybe we could attempt to start worldwide Kodachrome day. One day a year we all shoot one roll of the one and only Kodachrome. Dreaming maybe, but it would be cool for sure! Maybe Dwayne's would "sponsor" the event by discounting processing for those that sign up before hand or something...

I'll go crawl back into my cave now.

To Euro Kodachrome user :

Hi all,

Is the Euro Kodachrome here still sending their process pre-paid rolls to Lausanne 's lab ? And they forward it to Dwayne's lab ?
Or do you send it directly to Dwayne's (at expense, I presume) ?

Best regards,

Raphael

Huoh...
I'd better read more seriously the thread next time, I just saw the link to Kodak page provided by dxphoto.
And I have answer to my question now... Sorry and thanks to all.

Yes, the pre-paid envelopes still list the Lausanne address for all European countries except Germany, which has its own address.

Two rolls I sent recently took 12 days from posting to return to me in the UK, which is about the same as when the processing took place in Lausanne. As far as I remember when there was UK processing in Hemel Hempstead(?) back in the '80s, it typically took around 10 days.

Maybe the Lausanne lab didn't have enough volume for runs every day, so the extra transit time to the US is offset by rapid turnaround once the film gets to Dwaynes.

Thanks you, Ian, for the useful information about delay. This is an answer to my another unformulated question

Seriously, was I reading Dwayne's developing price wrong at 8.50 per 36 exp roll developed and $4 for a roll CD scan. I just sent off a roll of Elite Chrome to Dale Labs and it cost's me $9 for the roll plus $2.75 return shipping. For the price difference, which is nothing since I orginally thought it was alot more, I'd shoot Kodachrome as well.

Hm, so... buying some from Germany over the internet may not be the best idea when you live in the Netherlands? It's just that I usually order my film and darkroom supplies in Germany, and that I can at least *find* a shop that has Kodachrome in Germany... No luck in the Netherlands so far.

Both addresses are printed on the envelope, but you need to write one of them on to the label, so there shouldn't be a problem. I assume the same packaging and envelopes are distributed to all European countries. Not sure why Germany is special, would have thought it was quicker to send the film directly to Lausanne.

Okay, thanks for the information!
And it's some International Free Postage "thingy", I suppose; that's also not depending on where you buy it? (It's been about 15 years since I last used Kodachrome... Just checking...)

You guys are bad!

I kicked my 30-year long Kodachrome jag last Autumn by finishing out the final roll shooting the "leaf colors" up here in the Copake countryside.

Remember, the stuff is all but discontinued, it is environmentally a "bad guy" such that only one place on the whole globe will develop it and it gives you such reds and yellows that it is an addictive drug!

What other film ever had a song made about it!

Please stop talking about Kodachrome. I'm getting all "itchy" and about to start checking websites for a "fix"! :D

Gosh, I love that stuff!!!

Well not quite one, whilst I was looking for C22 information and pricing I noticed Process C22 now process Kodachrome though for a somewhat eye-watering price.

George:

I think you are mistaken about the environmental impact about Kodachrome, at least in respect of the most recent K14 process.

The earlier, K12 process was a very high volume process - many labs would process thousands of feet of film each day in massive machines (remember that they used the same machines to process Kodachrome movie film). While the environmental "footprint" was very small, on a per roll basis, the sheer volumes of materials and energy used were likely to have some effect.

During its heyday, and during the busy summer months, the Kodak lab where my father worked in North Vancouver, British Columbia, ran three shifts and 24 hours per day.

In addition, any effluent that did result was fully treated and there were other extensive measures in place to minimize or eliminate the environmental impact.

IIRC, one of the reasons for developing the K14 process was to permit smaller, lower volume labs, which use much smaller amounts of chemistry and energy (and thus have a lower environmental impact).

It is the complexity of the process, as much as anything that has led to its falling out of mainstream favour.

I'm not from the UK, but I was curious. It looks to me like they're just forwarding it to Dwayne's here in the States.

I looked at the site, and their pricelist states they develop kodachrome as a b/w neg like rockymountain.

In the late 90's I remember a rumor that Kodak was developing/had developed small machines that could process Kodachrome so many mini/pro labs could develop it on site. I wonder what ever happened to those machines.
