I have good success scanning Kodachrome with a V600 Epson scanner. I use "professional" setting. The slides presented with link below date to 1977. They were scanned at 800dpi with no other manipulation (default settings). The v600 includes a slide holder that allows you to scan 4 slides at a time. If I plan to print the scans I use a higher resolution. See scans here:

Your image -> https://i.imgur.com/O66BAgk.jpg doesn't seem to have benefited from ICE (dust and scratch removal). Was it scanned with ICE or was it just not effective in this case?

Les, I am a total novice in scanning. I have done very little of it and am not up to speed on terminology. Please explain the term ICE. I see the Epson V600 has an ICE logo on the unit, but I do not see ICE as a setting while scanning. As I mentioned earlier, these slides were scanned at default settings. When setting my scanner for positive film, the only setting checked is "Unsharp Masking". Other settings available are: Grain Reduction, Color Restoration, Backlight Correction and Dust Remover. These settings must be selected if wanted.

It is the setting for "Dust Remover" that enables or disables ICE.
