That shot was taken by Jack Delano, a Farm Security Administration photographer. His work is really awesome.

I'd like to hear that story, being a musician myself...
I got the information from an article I once read in a British Journal of Photography special issueto celebrate the fiftieth aniversary of Kodachrome, twenty odd years ago, and it's always stuck in my mind.
