I got an email today (June 7) about a collaboration between these two companies, and it includes a photo contest organized by the Kodak Camera Club. The contest ended on June 3.

Anyway there are another ten days before they show their wares but it'll be fun to see what they've come up with.

Hey Andrew, at the top of that page you can click on "Shop" and see their products - they're a fashion and clothing brand.

I can't work out the connection with Kodak. There is presumably something that works to both companies' advantage. In the case of Kodak you have to buy its film but what's in it for Knickerbocker to choose Kodak?

Thanks

I've seen some clothing/apparel brands who have licensed the Kodak name and logo. This particular example seems to be doing some co-marketing with the photographic part of Kodak. Not a bad idea when so many young people have no history with or historical knowledge of Kodak film.

Why pay more for socks than a 100' of film?

B&H currently has 100 foot roll of Tri X listed for $120. I don’t see any socks on the Knickerbocker website that approach that cost. But whatever, I guess you’re not their target audience.

did they not do a silar thing a year or two ago with Kodak logos on Skate Boards.

Yep, Kodak made a “collaboration” with a skateboard company called Girl a few years ago, just when they announced the Super-8 camera and Ektachrome. I have some of the t-shirts and a cap from that collection. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the beautiful blue Ektachrome windbreaker.

Skateboard companies are doing this lately. Primitive Skateboards made a collaboration with the famous Japanese soy sauce brand Kikkoman.

I guess it’s pretty much like the Hasselblad cameras for drones and smartphones thing.

What's a knickerbocker? I clicked on the link but couldn't see what it could be... is it the basketball team?
A "knickerbocker" is a very traditional pair of pants worn in the countryside of Austria and Bavaria. According to wikipedia it was also quite popular in the USA about 100 years ago. The clothes offered in this knickerbocker.nyc shop look nothing like knickerbockers, they probably just found the name trendy&cool.

First time I hear that. And I could not find a respective reference either.
I rather see them as fashionable style of trousers from the first half of the 20th century.

Just pick your favorite search engine to look for "Knickerbocker Trachtenhose" and you shall find ...

The skateboard collaboration was a good one resulting in unique art but this is mostly poor quality graphic design applied to t-shirts and stuff. The t-shirt designer apparently typed vintage Kodak advertising slogans into a word processor and didn't bother to even adjust kerning. Edit to add: I think simply reproducing the vintage ads on t-shirts might have worked better, actually.

Those are not Knickerbockers, but leather, straight, over-the-knees trouser with cuffs.
Knickerbockers are from textile and, more important, marked by being very wide above the cuff, like being inflated.

They call them "knickerbockers" nonetheless, although the name admittedly comes from a US trouser style.

There is, of course, the professional basketball team whose official name has been the New York Knickerbockers since it was formed in 1946.
