I purchased a Kiev 88 few months ago, and already shot 3 rolls with it. No problem, so far.
Then suddenly this happened: the camera was cocked (without film loaded), and the shutter curtain only moved just a tiny bit. Here's the video showing the problem
In general, what are the causes?

. Seriusly there could be a number of reasons. I had multiple bodies failed on me. One time there where problems with the shutter release and a second one was a a part that became lose inside the body and got stick with the certain mechanism.. Unfortunatly both of them required a technician. I had about 5 - 6 Kiev 88 bodies over the years and two of them have been working correctly. The others have been sold as parts or repaired eventually.
