I just received a Kiev 88 with the MC Volna 80/2.8. From quick inspection, looked mechanically and optically sound (haven't test with films, though).
After some reading, seems like Pentacon Six lenses are better performer, e.g the 80/2.8 Biometar is better than the Volna.

Interestingly, ARAX still accepts order for modification (permanent, I guess). Anyone ever do that? The price looks pretty reasonable.

Actuallly, I went the other way around. I bought a Kiev 88 mount to Pentacon mount adapter to use the Kiev 88 fisheye lens on the Kiev 6c.

How much do they charge for the convertion? I really love and have fun with the Kiev 88 but they are not the most reliable of the cameras. It would suck if they convert it for you just to have it fail. If you want to try the Pentacon would suggest a Kiev 6c. I had 3 Kiev 88 before I got a solid one ( been working great for 3 years now) but none of my Kiev 6c had failed yet.

- Disassembly and assembly of the camera body: $129
- Shutter repairing & CLA: $94
- Kiev-88 screw camera mount replacement into ARAX/P-Six (+ move the shutter release): $275

Discount is 5%, so final price is $474. For other modifications, check this.

Why not just buy the 6C?

Well, because I'm a fan of modular 6x6 camera 😀

Why not try it with the Volna and its other native lenses, before embarking on an expensive modification to a camera that hasn't been used yet?

Changing the mount to Pentacon Six is interesting idea. I've tested the 80/2.8 and 50/4 on GFX, and yes they are nice lenses.
Of course, I won't do this ASAP. Let's have fun with the native Kiev 88 lenses first. 😀

Just try shooting with Volna. You'll love it

Just get a lens hood for the Volna. Good lens but prone to glare.
