I was at the marina over the weekend taking some shots around the docks with my Yashica Mat 124.
Lots of "Oooh, Cool old camera" type comments from the over 50 crowd. One young-ish "tough guy" type asked me to delete the picture with him in it. I was showing the camera to a friend and another young fellow was looking into the viewfinder with us when my friend asked me how old the camera was. When I told him they were first introduced in 1968 the young guy was astounded at the quality of LCD screens they had that far back. I very politely explained how the camera worked, I think he was at least a little impressed.

:D

hahahaha yeah kids have no idea of how beautiful cameras were before the digital came along. I let a youngin look in my RB prism ready framed my shot on the tripod. the kid was brandishing a Mach 5D fighter plane around his neck with a cannon ready for battle. Totally amazed in awe, he said the RB had an amazing 3D quality n impressed the hell out of him when I told him what the viewfinder was made of n how it actually works. Then came back to the future shock.. I explained how I have to wait to see my pictures n the long chemical process I had ahead of me.

yeah, got dam kids!

I would probably qualify as one of those "kids"

On my sister's birthday I was shooting some portraits with the Rolleiflex, her friend and her brother asked me about it and thought it was a bit dorky when I said it used film. Then I showed them the viewfinder and said I make my own prints and they were a little more impressed. Then I told them the camera was older than any of us in that room and it used no batteries, that blew their minds

Be nice to your kids. They will decide which rest home you will live in.
