Have been a member of APUG then DPUG and after a break came upon Photrio a few months back, which is the successor to both I gather.

Having joined two interest groups which seem to be pretty moribund, thought I would post in this forum to see if there was anyone out there .

Having been hooked on photography from the tender age of 10, some 70 years ago, I just cannot shake it off and now indulge myself with cameras I have admired but couldn't afford. Buying and selling as I go, I have sampled many a mixed bunch and have kept the ones I most enjoyed, currently a Vitomatic 2a, a Linhof Super Technika 4 and an Ensign 12-20.

No darkroom any more since moving here from the UK in 2002 but process my own mono and copy the negs with a Micro Nikkor on a Sony mirrorless and process in Affinity Photo.

The camera club scene now seems to be all about gear and the latest wonder from Adobe which produce some great images at times I must admit. Somehow pushing a few buttons is great but manual focus, metering for exposure and settings plus later processing the film is much more satisfying for me. Probably past my sell-by date anyway.

Rambled on a bit, I know, sorry about that. But if there is anyone in my neck of the woods of a similar outlook I would be delighted to get together and compare notes. Some images posted in Hybrid and Mono groups and the one here taken on Vitessa Barn-door with Ultron on Retro 80S in Rodinal.

Cheers,

Tony

Hello! Not from your stomping ground but welcome home I would say. Good luck finding some contacts locally!

Hello neighbour, welcome to Photrio

(over in NEV)

Being a bit slow Sean - do I gather from NEV that you are in North East Valley, Dunedin? I am in Kenmure.

Yes, you might be the closest member to ever register, about 13-15mins from me

I was a bit confused with your images seeming to be around Auckland. I gather that there are no other Photrio people in the area then. Perhaps we can meet up for a coffee sometime. By the way, is that a Gowlandflex you are holding? A real beast of a camera, makes my Linhof seem quite compact.

I'm a coffee 'home barista' fanatic so you'll have to drop in for a coffee. I've come down with some kind of winter bug though so best to keep away for now. Yeah we've lived in Welly, Tauranga, Akl and finally settled in Dunedin. I used to have the Gowlandflex but sold it to a member here a while back.

Sorry to hear you are under the weather. Hope you shake it off soon. Will organise something once you feel you aren't too dangerous!
