I recently ordered and paid for 100 sheets of 8x10 Kentona to be shipped direct to me. Yesterday a large flat package was dropped off by the mailman and I said wow they must have sent me a calendar. Inside was an envelope of 25 sheets with a packing slip for 100 sheets. No reply to my e-mail so far, not sure how this one is going to play out.
They seem to to have discontinued stipple finish and also Grade 3 Bromide

Last time I contacted them by email with a question, it did take 3 or 4 days for them to answer: not quite joined the rest of us in the 21st century yet, methinks...

Quite a few of the UK APUG contingent will be in Kentmetre's area (Cumbria: a.k.a. The Lake District) in February: we can picket the factory if they don't sort out your problem if you like ...

Mark, I order Kentmere paper every three months and so far without any delivery problems. Did you contact Kentmere directly or through agent? I know someone in Ontario, Canada, very reliable person, he is Canadian agent from Kentmere, thats the place I get all my Kentmere orders from.

I haven't been in the Lake District for 30 years, I still remember driving a state of the art Hillman Minx up to Castlerigg

Thanks for the help offer. I also deal with Mike -he's the greatest and has sorted it out with Kentmere.
If you ever see any 'old' cadmium Kentona knocking around up there let me know

Blimey - how did it get up the hillside?! Lucky it's not far...

When I'm next there, I'll sacrifice a sheet of Kentona in the middle of the circle at dawn to ensure you continued supplies for the coming year.

Now I'm off to sacrifice untold amounts of Ilford MG in an almost certainly futile attempt to get a decent finished print of my avatar.

Graded paper question

Okay, here's one for you guys that eat, live and breathe fiber paper. In looking at the most recent Freestyle catalog, they make reference to graded Kentmere Bromide and Kentona. Bromide FB is indicated as being available only in "Kentmere Grade 2 equal to U.S. Grade 2.5," and Kentona FB is listed as being "U.S. Grades 2, 3 and 4." Am I to assume that there are two different Grade systems at play here? Anyone with a definitive response please reply so I don't wast money on the wrong grade of fiber paper!

They got it backwards. Bromide is available in grades 2-4, Kentona is only Gr. 2.

There are no grade systems. Different manufacturers have different opinions as to which ISO(R) corresponds to which grade, so some manufacturers' Grade 2 papers are harder than others. Remember too that dev. choice can add up to about half a grade or subtract up to about a grade.

Notwithstanding what Roger has said, I have re-read the quote from the Freestyle catalogue and it's still a strange way to express things. It does give the impression that there is a Kentmere grade and a U.S. grade which is standardised and different. Rather like Imperial gallons and U.S. gallons except that in the case of gallons there are two genuine standards.

Rather like the famous Colemanballs: Referring to the cricket match in the West Indies, Coleman said to listeners in the U.K. "The test match will start in 10 minutes. That's British time of course."

They got it backwards. Bromide is available in grades 2-4, Kentona is only Gr. 2.

Kentona is only available in one grade and it's roughly equivalent to an Azo grade 3. If you develop it for about 4 minutes in amidol, you'll get even more contrast out of it. Judicious use of a water bath will pull the contrast back down to roughly grade 2. It's truly remarkable paper.

We sure do me old china !BTW, Kentona is a lovely paper(not quite as warm as Forte) and responds well to Amidol-you seem to get slightly warmer tones with prints souped in Amidol and then selenium toned .
