Hi Folks

I am starting a show for our new Dylan Ellis Gallery and I need some help with a part of it.
All the photographers use Ilford end products and the whole show is intended to be Ilford Harmon fibre prints . analoque and digital.
I need to produce some prints in Lith and though I love Ilford Warmtone I am drawn to more vivid results seeing some of the images I will be printing.
Does anyone here have any working knowledge of Kentmere Papers, I will be using Maco A B dev and am open to any/all toning suggestions.

thanks a bunch

Bob

Kentmere Warmtone VC in the semi-matte. Creamy, slightly pink highlights and very cold (almost blue) shadows. You can tone it in hot, strong selenium and get more purple shadows, but I usually prefer to to leave it untoned. If you look in my gallery, Lifeguard Chair, pantheon dome,Maple Leaf, Crow on Davis St. beach, Guide to being a real man,and Seagull in the Fog are all examples of this paper in Maco. All are untoned.

As far as I know, Fineprint Warmtone VC (only comes in semimatte surface that is much like the semi matte Agfa MCC 118, but much warmer) and Kentona, which says it's glossy, but doesn't present much sheen. Kentona looks fantastic, though. Here's a link to a 6x6" image printed on it: (there was a url link here which no longer exists) St Catherine's College is the one you want to open.

Hope that helps. I know Kentmere Bromide doesn't work in lith, but am unsure of the standard Kentmere Fineprint VC.

just tried Kentona today and it is great and very different from Fineprint warmtone. The Kentona is much smoother and it is available as glossy. The shadows for are more brown-black rather than blue-green-black of the fineprint. The difference is in toning and the relatively grittiness. Full toning (hot and strong) makes a wonderful chocolate tone. A brief immersion changes it to pull it to a more neutral print with purplely shadows. A brief immersion in gold after the selenium pulls it even more neutral...sort of. It is really nice. I just placed a big Freestyle order.
