Can anyone point me to the characteristic curves for Kentmere 100 and Kentmere 400?

I've had no luck on the Kentmere website...

I have been told that the films marketed by Kentmere (note I said marketed, not manufactured) are the same as the cheaper Ilford versions similar to FP4 and HP5. They are sold under the names of Pan 100 and Pan 400. Ilford now own Kentmere so I cannot see them selling two very similar budget range films.

Dear BMBikerider,

Someone has given you a bit of innacurate information I'm afraid: No they are not

The emulsion for KENTMERE films was ( and is ) a brand new ( conventional ) emulsion developed and coated by HARMAN. They are indeed manufactured and sold by HARMAN technology Limited :

ILFORD PAN 100 and 400 films are a totally different emulsion to KENTMERE and also to the FP4+ and HP5+ ILFORD films, they always have been, so all coated by HARMAN and all different.

Kind Regards

Simon ILFORD Photo / HARMAN technology Limited :

What's the difference between the Pan films and the Kentmere films? It's quite obvious they're not the same as FP4+ etc. But since PAN 100 et. al. are not available here, it'd be interesting to know about them.

Harman does indeed not publish any characteristic curves for the films, so somebody would have to test it. Fred Newman does this as a service (for compensation, of course), but anybody with a step wedge and a densitometer should be able to do it, so if somebody has that equipment perhaps they could be persuaded by a few rolls of film or a box of paper to perform such a test?

Thanks for stopping by Simon! Any hope to get curves for the Kentmere products? The Ilford films all have the curves in the Technical Information .PDF sheets.

Obviously, this is more difficult than anyone thought.

Harman / Ilford was sold a couple of years ago. Simon Galley is no longer involved. It probably just got dropped.

It looks like an oversight by Harman, now Pemberstone, to fail to include the curves. They have to be in the Kentmere technical files. I'd send a message to Harman technology. It seems Pemberstone has decided to keep the former owner's name.

Harman can now be reached by "Starting a Canversation" here on APUG with "Harman Tech Service".
