Keeping time in the dark...

RH Designs ProcessMaster II:

Up to 8 programmable sequences, dimmable light, toggle percentage/time, overrun if required (for N+ development, audio signal every 30 seconds, developer temperature compensation if desired and a footswitch.

The kitchen timer is back in the kitchen, the metronome in the music room (well to be truthful, in the camera bag for long exposure timing)

It's so good to regain confidence in the pitch dark that the timer is working and that you have pressed the right button; not an uncommon panic attack for me in the kitchen timer days.

yep, that "qwtrey" keyboard is never attached to the computer when I need it.

i use a gralab 300 ( or maybe its cousin ? )
i don't really look at the time, just listen for the click
when the time runs out.

RH Design Process Master with foot switch and an ND filter taped over the display. Well legible, precise, you know where you are in the process, no confusion once you are dark. Have not seen anything better.

One of the few advantages of my tiny darkroom is that I can place the RH Process Master on a shelf underneath the tray level and shield the trays from any possibility of light. RH Designs believe that even on bench level it is OK in that respect.

The talking timer from Dick Smith is the one which gave me the willies: it does beep when you start it, then remains silent for a whole minute, during which time you wonder whether you have hit the right one of 6 small, closely placed, identical buttons (which eventually become gummed up BTW)

If you programme a time for count down what do you do after the elapsed development time? Go through the whole angst once more, plus stopping and restarting (more little keys in the dark) for stop and fix?

Maybe I'm just scared of the dark!

Sort your music by duration - you'll find a tune (or tunes) for almost all development and fixing times
