O.k. I FINALLY got the Liquid Light to work. Now, it works great on 90# Arches hot-pressed. And it holds well to the papyrus I used.

The porblem I now face is substrates that want to curl or wrinkle when they dry. The papyrus does this quite a bit, and I am sure other papers and substrates will too....

So how can I stop this? I am thinking maybe some sort of stretcher frame that the paper is stapled to while wet. Or maybe some sort of weight. My only concern is the wet emulsion sticking to whatever covers it. Any hints here?

There are several types of tape that watercolorists use, the one I believe Aggie is referring to is a 'washout tape' it will even preserve deckled edges. The other type of gummed paper tape will result in over 50% fibre tear (read big mess) if you try to remove it... usually cut off with blade and straight edge. If you do not want a hard line containment you could always use an art masking fluid feathered out in addition to the tape, it is quite benign and easily removed.

Very cool. I will have to try that. I knew I couldn't be the only person with this issue...

Another trick is to coat the back of the paper with gelatine. No emulsion, just the gelatine. This way the paper curls equally both ways when dry. With a bit of luck the curls will cancel out.
