This is so cool, that I just had to tell you guys!
My wife and I were going by a yard sale on Saturday, and someone had a a bunch of darkroom gear out that was the leftovers from a late professional photographer's estate sale. So, we ended up getting an Omega Super Chromega D Dichroic II head on a D5 chassis for $25! I think this is a pretty good deal because...
...it came with all the neg carriers, the Chromegatrol controller, and the lens turret - to which are mounted 3 enlarging lenses. The lenses look like Schneider "made in Germany" with their logo, but are branded "Calumet". Would these be re-branded compnon lenses of some sort?
Another $5 got us some odds and ends like a voltage stabilizer, Omega grain focuser, a reflector and stuff.
So, just wanted to let you all know the deals are still out there and now I have no excuse not to get a 4x5 someday! :D
Best to all,
Jed

Wow, I paid about $300 more with out the third lens and the turret! Now I need to get the adapting plates for the lenses to the turret I just got. At the time I was shooting 36mm and 6x6 and immediately starting thinking about 4x5 just because I could. It took a few years and the GAS pressure pushed me in 4x5 recently.

I also hang out on a woodworking forum. By now you would have a dozen mandatory " YOU SUCK " 's.

I had to pay $300 for a plain D5, oh and they threw in 10 unopened boxes of paper

If you had gotten it on evilBay they would have opened the 10 boxes of paper to count the sheets! :surprised:

WHAT?! My Dad was a great bargain hunter and haggler, I'll say to you what he would have said to me: "You F'ing little Bastard!"

Congratulations on your good deal.
Yes, the lenses are most likely rebranded Schneider componons, possibly componar's.

Wow, and I thought the Durst L1200/CLS501 I just picked up for $300 was a fair deal. YOU SUCK! (Mine came with no lens or lens board, but it did have the glassless 4x5 mask in the carrier, which was something I didn't get with my other L1200.)

Thanks guys, I needed that!
I'm the one that (as my brother says) always pays full price for everything! The funny thing is that I wasn't even going to buy it...I told my wife, I'm not spending any more money on photography gear this month...but then she saw that 4x5 enlarger, and when the guy said "it's been a slow morning, I just dropped the price on everything", she was like, we ARE going to buy that!
Boy, when I got it home and started looking at those things, I am sure glad we did. Now if I just had a camera bigger than my 35mm Minolta to do it justice...
Here's to all the bargain hunters, I finally got mine. If it helps, we then drove to Hollywood, and purchased a bunch of materials from Freestyle for doing 16x20s (big trays and paper, etc). Sooooo...the wallet got it in the end anyway! :D

Yeah, not like my ex, who is an ex for a reason. Like my girlfriend, definitely a keeper. Among other things my girlfriend "won" an new f/3.8 28mm to 300mm Tamron XR when they first came out. By "won" I mean she won it on a wheel of fortune in Bel Air Camera.

Considering how expensive parts are for the L1200, $300 for a second negative carrier and mask is a deal!

The guy who outbid me for the loose one on ebay apparently agrees with you! I did actually want a second enlarger, not just to strip it for its parts...but who knows, another deal like that may be the only one to cost-effectively snag that extra carrier I desire, sheeeesh.

That's me too. My brother however will routinely go to see an item with half the advertised price in cash in his pocket and most of the time will come back with the item.

Haha - yes, my wife is great. She's the one that even got me into photography in the first place. I think I uploaded a photo of her here on my "gallery" a while back.

Steve - Wow, your brother sounds like mine! I don't know how he does it, but he can talk down just about any salesperson I ever saw. I'm just like, "tell me the price and if I want it bad enough, here you go"...
Maybe I need to re-think my strategy! :D
Well, we're going to enlarge some of Kim's 35mm Adox CMS20 Negs to 16x20 prints, so we'll see how it goes. I've never done above 11x14 myself - always had a lab do anything bigger (like my 20x30 prints from slides, etc). New printing territory - I'm excited!

Hmmm...just noticed I must have made some off-comment above. Not sure what I said, but if I offended anyone, you have my honest apologies! I'm here for photography and fun, not to make anyone upset.
Sincerely,
Jed

I didn't see anything off color to be worried about. Congrats again on a great find!
