Hi,

I just found this place. I've been looking for a site where people don't constantly go on and on about their latest digital slr and how their 1 year old one is obsolete. They were really making me feel inferior for shooting film. I don't have the thousands to buy the latest toy, though I plan on getting one someday to shoot my kids' sports. I shoot with a 20+ year old Nikon F3. I've got a 50 1.4, 105 2.5, 35-135 AF macro, 17-35 2.8 AF-S, and 80-200 2.8 AF-D. Of course all the AF lenses are manual on my camera but that's ok. Landscapes and occasional portraits are my major subject matter. I've got a dry mount press and mount 11x14 prints for sale. People seem to like my b&w prints the best, so I am doing more b&w anymore. In my opinion film still has an edge over digital in black and white photography.

My home is in the far north valley outside of Albuquerque, NM. It is very nice out here, though we are very close to the city there are cows, goats, horses, ancient adobe homes, and cottonwood trees hundreds of years old. Those trees are great photo subjects, along with the shady irrigation ditches and nearby river. My house is just west of the balloon park.

Welcome Doug from Hawaii!! You have found the right place, in fact, once you have been hear for awhile, you will realize that film is better for color as well. There is a lot you can learn, keep you ears open. BTW, there are a lot of people here that use a Nikon F3, you will not feel alone. Give the place a good look around, it is worth becoming a subscriber, as you will soon find out.

Welcome to APUG Doug, I'm sure you'll find lots of great info and new friends, we're a friendly bunch, anyone out of line get's spanked and sent to bed. :D

Welcome Doug. There are more than a couple of New Mexicans hanging around here and I'm sure that they'll introduce themselves. I'm just a bit South of you in Los Lunas.

Welcome to APUG. The only bad thing I can say about this place is that your bank account may suffer greatly:D It is hard to spend much time here without getting into large format. Myself, I am suffering with a major itch to get into ULF (ultra large format, bigger than 8X10), but I am holding out so far.

Welcome Doug. I think APUG will be very useful for you. There are countless existing threads in the forums with lots of information, and any question you might have can probably be answered by one of the many users here.

As Allen mentioned, there are a number of photographers from New Mexico on the site. I personally went to NMSU in the late '70s. I return every few years on vacation, and I'm constantly amazed at the beauty that I find in places that I had never explored before. I suppose you could say my heart is in New Mexico (along with my gall bladder, which I left in Española in 1996.)

You'll also find a lot of Nikon shooters here (and lots of users of Canon, Minolta, Olympus, Leica, Zeiss, and many others...and that's only in 35mm). The 105/2.5 is an oft-mentioned favorite portrait lens among Nikon users. (It's my favorite portrait lens.)

Enjoy your time with APUG. We're always happy to have a new member here who shares our passion for analog photography.

Be well.
Dave

Welocme Doug, from North Texas, and a big fan of the state of New Mexico. Very fond of the drive from San Ysidro up into the Jemez. Very rich area for photography and lots of photogs there, and the APUG group in NM is a nice group of folks.

Welcome Doug.
I avoid albuquerque whenever i can! I like to ride down to white sands or explore dirt roads in the BLM areas.

Welcome....i am a small part of the Upper Midwest contingent. Looking forward to seeing your stuff.

:surprised:

The above comment notwithstanding,

Welcome to APUG! Plenty of 35mm here. Plenty of everything, actually. Enjoy!

Cheers,

David

Don't say it too loud, we don't want to attract any British members of parliament.

Welcome Doug.
