I was going through a box of old darkroom gear acquired from a friend and I found a copy of "Processing Chemicals and Formulas for Black and White Photography" it's an old Professional Data Book by Kodak with the price tag of - a whopping dollar on it. It has all sorts of cool recipes and instructions on how to mix your own developers, stopbaths, fixers... etc...

I found mine last year, bought waaaay back in '86 when I was taking darkroom classes. This, of course, was after I'd acquired a couple more, thinking I'd lost my old one...

Be careful, just because a book is no longer readily available does not mean that one can ignore the copyright.

Correct, though it becomes kind of a moment 22 then. I have a friend who's a recording artist, he's got the same trouble. There's a range of discs he did during the 90's that are no longer available, but he's under contract with Sony, and they don't want to print more of em, but his fans are asking for them. We were discussing this and even talked about spreading the material online as it was a dead end no matter what (Sony did not even allow him to make a series of prints on his own etc.).

Finally we came up with the idea to get an agreement with Sony to put them on the download and streaming services, and they said yes unless there was any costs involved on their part...

Maybe this is what should be done with good old stuff like the mentioned book, e-books...

yeah, I know copyright, but I assume this is something that is not anymore possible to purchase, right?

Not a copyright problem for several reasons.

1. Not an artistic work,

2. Probably too old to still be protected,

3. It would be fair use as it would be for education.

Steve.

Those are not the same, Fred. Your ebay search mostly pulls up the B&W or Color Darkroom Data Guide. That is not the same as "Processing Chemicals and Formulas for Black and White Photography". Search Amazon for the latter and you'll see it's a completely different book.
