I'm wondering if it's worth trying or not. Rollei Infrared 400 is $79 while FPP 4X5 Infrared is just $49 both for 25 sheets.
John, it is most likely repacked Aviphot... the exact same stuff as Rollei IR.
I pretty much figured that it was Andy, but the price difference made me scratch my head. I'm going to shell out the $50.00 to find out just how good it is. I'm going to use my SP-445 tank to process it and hope that works with those thin sheets.
Two part box isn't much of a problem if you are a home developer, which I am. If I remember correctly I think my box of Shanghai GP3 4X5 came in a two-part box also. Maybe this is the trend of the future? Still, a $30.00 savings per box over Rollei Infrared 400 is a big chuck of change for this Hollander. That is if it's exactly the same as Rollei Infrared 400. FPP just sent me a notice yesterday that my film is on its way so we'll see.FPP finds cost cutting measures here and there that keep the price down. For example they packaged my Mummy 400 in a 2 part box instead of a lightproof 3 part box which was annoying when I had to convey my exposures to the lab as I had to find an empty 3 part box which was not easy.
Of course now I have a stack of 3 part boxes and it’s no longer an issue but it really sucked at the time.
You are so right Andy, The only two things you can count on anymore is death and taxes. If this FPP Infrared works for me I'm going to pack away 100 sheets. I just hope I can use them up before the Grim Reaper comes calling. Going out tomorrow with my 1898 Cyclone 4X5 box camera loaded with Shanghai GP3 100 (yes, I can confirm it is in a two part box) and will certainly try some FPP Infrared in that camera. Just might be a perfect combination? The worst boxes I've seen so far are the ones from CatLabs! Flimsy...but I shouldn't complain if it helps keep the price down.
I've got a ton of Rollei IR in 120 and 4x5. They both appear to share the same film base. I say stock up boys! It won't be around forever... Our only option then will be SFX and HR-50. Sadly, neither come in sheet film sizes.
Is there a specific reason to believe that Rollei IR will be discontinued soon and that I need to start stocking up soon? As much as I would like to stock up on a soon-to-be-discontinued-film, I'm out of freezer space at the moment.I've got a ton of Rollei IR in 120 and 4x5. They both appear to share the same film base. I say stock up boys! It won't be around forever...
