Part of my birthday gift to myself was a M4/3 Lumix G85, and of course I am looking at the adapter possibilities.

I have some legacy glass in Nikon, M42 and Y/C mounts, so I would only deal with dumb adapters - no macro glass unfortunately.

Should I be a bit nervous about adapters not being mechanically compliant enough as to damage camera body?

The tinkerer (and former mech. engineer) in me could see some weird glue-up jobs with plastic parts...

I have a number of adaptors for M42, Miranda, to Sony E and Sigma SA, and M42 to Minolta/Sony A, So far I've not had any mechanical issues all of mine are all metal, and mate to the bodies without issues. I have a simi smart M42 to Minolta/Sony A that has a set of pins that fools the camera into thinking that an A lens is attached to the body, it works rather well. After all of the adaptors I find that in most cases it was not worth the trouble, my old primes were very good in the day, but not as good as modern editions of primes and good quality zooms. The only set up that I use is a M 42 Pentax bellows with a 105 on my Sigma SD10.

I still use a Sony NEX6 and have several Ebay (Chinese) adaptors for Sony E mount. I have a number of old MF primes that I use. It is lots of fun and sometimes I get some really decent images using focus peaking. How ever, I find that as I get older I'm getting more keepers using the native Sony glass. The camera nails the focus and also corrects for distortion automatically. As for your concern about the lower cost adaptors, I have never had a problem and never damaged the camera while using them. Just look for vendors with good reviews and 100% feedback.
