Jim just sent me an email explaining his new invention, which is in perfect harmony with his home built walnut cameras. He is about to produce his first COLD WEATHER JOSHUA TREE SLEEPING BAG. Out of American walnut of course.
The idea is to set the walnut on fire just before you crawl into bed at night. By the time Joshua Tree gets the coldest - just before sunrise - the bag will be wonderful - warm and toasty.

Ahh the smell of burning walnut in the morning!

Wonder if Jim got a patent yet???

I can roast the beans ( Friday night's dinner, sorry about the bad visual!) and boil water as I sleep and we, I mean, you guys will be good to go in the morning. Nothing like sleeping like the bears do in a walnut log.

Eat beans for dinner and wash it down with beer.

Climb in the sleeping bag and lit up the methane ... toast warm at night.

[Disclaimer: Do not try this at home!] :surprised:

Hey If the cards work for me I try to make it but can't count on it... but anyways as long as Matt hits a "Doe" on the way up I am sure with the beans we can make some Venison Chili from scratch... Sorry Matt had too its been a while... but everyone needs to bring a spice each... I let you all know soon...

I am so there! I'll make cookies to bring and share. Not sure if I'll tent camp or bring a small trailer ( I sold it to a friend but she lets me borrow it ). T. H., I "grew up" in T.O., what a great place to live!

If we have clouds in the early AM...

If we have any clouds in the AM in Joshua Tree this is what you may expect. It only lasts for a few minutes as the sun illuminates the clouds - before coming over the horizon.

- from the Joshua Tree Workshop 2007.

Yes Tori! We moved to T.O. in 1961. It's still a great place to live.

Geez - you guys are all way ahead of me. I'll be there - with my newest aquisition - 8 x 10 "dorf" and the 8 x 20 as always. But I'll be wimping out again and doing the hotel thing like last year. I still remember the 23 degree morning and the ice inside Jim's tent a couple of years ago, and Matt - it wasn't a little wind that kicked up last year - it was a hurricane that morning.

Last year's Sunday wind did not bother me at all. But then I was camping in a motel.

Uh...the only thing holding my tent down at 2:00 am was me...I unfortunately acted the gentleman and let my model for the weekend stay in my truck camper. Chivalry is way over rated.

Just FYI, the area just had about a foot of snow....niiice. Wish my schedule would have been free this week so I could have gone and grabbed some pix.

I can't go this year, again, I'm having a procedure that can't be put off. Everything else lined up but the one unchangeable appointment time which is within days of the weekend. A year is a long time to wait just to be dashed at the last moment. I hope everyone will have a great time, I wanted mostly to see Jim's 11x14 view camera.

Curt, it is to bad you can not make it. I always love showing my cameras to people. I'm only bringing the 8x20 and 11x14 this time along with some carbon transfer prints. I hope everything goes well and maybe we can get together at some other time. I'd love to show you my newest beast.
