Studio shot thirty years ago C33 Fuji 400 by Nokton48, on Flickr

My standard portrait setup from thirty years ago. A Chimera 4x6 foot soft box ninety degrees to the set, acting as a fill light. Main light is Chimera 3x4 foot soft box set at 45 degrees, one stop brighter than the fill. A reflective white 4x8 foot foam core panel set at 45 right. This is a handheld grab shot with my trusty Mamiya C33 with 105mm lens. Fuji 400 220 custom 8x10 machine print from my pro lab.

Muslin background is an OMNI and my preferred higher key muslin. I was the grand prize raffle winner at the Professional Photographers of Ohio trade show, and this background was my prize. Used it quite a bit. Usually I would find that the first exposure was often the best. Not always but often. I love the little curled finger, very fresh and spontaneous

Mamiya C33 #1 with Super 180mm dual K2's C Wheel now back from Mac at Camtronics. Now all best possible. Do need the black aperture tab if anyone here has one. Bought three 120 rolls of Ilford 100 not familiar but t-grained do like TMAX100 in 120. Background digital file from Tim Layton printed at Costco

I like the 220 Shanghai, I have dug out six Hasselblad A24 film magazines, and loaded 'em up with Shang. Feels good to me. Ordered another 20 rolls of the Shanghai 220 to keep 'em well fed. Also latest development LOL bought another MINT C22 body for a hundred bucks. Worth every penny. So that's two C33's, and two C22's, basically a backup for each. I'm actively looking for a 55mm black lens (clean) and bought the correct lens hood for the 55 it's also coming.

For certain shoots I prefer the Mamys for a lot of reasons. Other times it's Blad all the way. Cool to have a choice

I'm a little wary of buying any Shanghai film at the moment - I had some Catlabs 80 (rebadged Shanghai) that didn't have the beginning of the film taped to the paper, and it caused a real mess in my A12 back. Jammed it up fairly bad and the film turned into an accordianized mess. I hope for your sake they are better at taping the paper leader in the 220 to the film!

Sad to heard that. Had same experience with a Rollei 120 film roll (probably 100 or 400 RPX) and it was a pain.

I've used around 10 rolls of Shangai and some 5 rolls of Catlabs and fortunatly no issue there.

Jeremy,

I have resisted the Catlabs Shanghai as my interest in 120 from them is pretty low. I did have a roll of their 220 jam at frame 19 (near the end of the roll), I opened the camera and respooled it, and ran it through with difficulty and finished it off. The camera was a Mamiya C33 with 220 back. Could be the camera it's new to me so not sure. Haven't developed that roll yet but it's in the tank ready to soup. So far that is the only operational issue but time will tell.

By the way, seems that Catlabs went the save route that Ultrafine Xtreme. Stocks had died up. Not really mourn them as much as I did Ultrafine Xtreme 120 though

C22 Jonesing new kit by Nokton48, on Flickr

My second new to me Mamiya C22. Adding the stovepipe viewfinder and a 220 back. It meters 220 film smoothly so it's a keeper. Still it will go to Mac at Camtronics for spa. Also have a 55mm f4.5 Black lens and the correct 55mm Mamiya Shade on the way. So it's two C22's, and two C33's., and my Mamiyaflex. Good to have working backups. Quicker to grab second camera preloaded, then reloading roll after roll. Also I use a lot of film types so interchangeable bodies, not interchangeable backs.

Twenty more rolls of 220 Shanghai are on their way to me

You still need to buy more bodies and lenses.

This second C22 and 55mm are the last items I need for now, excepting another Magnifying hood. Thanks  Lens is on the delivery truck right now

While you are waiting for the delivery, isn't it time to order more film?

C22 55mm Mamiya 120 Delta 100 by Nokton48, on Flickr

New C22 checked AOK by Camtronics, also new 55mm f4.5 Mamiya cost a lot but truly mint and also fully checked and cleared for use. Glass has no haze big problem with most of these. Also went next door World of Photography has closed dated Delta 100 for $1.50 below B&H so I bought all they had. Also three newish looking Broncolor Deluxe Air Cushion light stands (prolly cost over a grand new, one even has wheels) for $50. So Happy Happy. Recommend Camtronics and World of Photography. Good Businesses. Bokeh background downloaded from Tim Layton and printed at Costco

LOL Actually I have been planning this film purchase for a month or so. I pool trips the businesses are side-by-side so very convenient. Delta 100 is something I have been wanting to try for a while. Going to see Camtronics didn't cost me anything so it's a good time to buy

C22 with 55mm, C22 with 80mm, C33 with 105DS, and C33 with 135mm Bluedot. Just got a fourth Stovepipe Finder, all these cameras have 220 Backs on them. Dual Hoya Med Yellow Filters on each lens. Been shooting 220 Shanghai have a lot of new negs to print. Results very good and consistent. I have Hasselblads but these are just great for some things.

Also been shooting a wide variety of 120 B&W, it is great I can alternate 220 and 120. The C33 was the first C to have built in parallax in the viewfinder. And the C22 is like a modernized Mamiyaflex that takes 220.

Normally use the C330 when doing closeups. Really like working with the C330 and paramender when doing that.

Also has the 135mm lens. I fell in love with this camera when I got her (for an exceptionally good price at auction) and she is a permanent feature in continuous use.

Yep the earlier Mamys have great build quality and are comfortable to shoot. I like all the hundreds of "little M's" moulded into the exterior skins

Wow.

I've been using my C220 for years and never noticed that until your comment made me take a close look. I always just thought it was some sort of non-descript pattern.
